Is the Carer Payment eligible for Indefinite Portability like the DSP?

Can someone please clarify this?

Just say my partner and I are moving overseas for over 13 weeks, and she has been granted Indefinite Portability (we haven't applied for it just yet!) am i able to get Carer Payment Indefinitely aswell?

Unfortunately unlimited portability is only available to those that qualify on the DSP. However given that the Government has previously acknowledged the important role of carers, I think they will eventually have to look into extending it to carers too. Just ask Hugh Borrowman. The Government changed the law just to suit him a few years back. Probably helped too that he was a Commonwealth bureaucrat.

I think not, they currently deny it for a carer of a terminally ill traveler so I can't see it happening for those covered by the new rules.

Note: A carer accompanying a DSP recipient with terminal illness should be regarded as going overseas for a temporary period and therefore may be entitled to 13 weeks portability.

I'm a carer and I can confirm it, f....ing 6 weeks that what we get. So the "generous" unlimited portability which is granted for those who are seriously impaired which would mean they do need a carer, is nonsense.
I've seen there is a "wife pension" not sure what that mean and who entitles, but would be worth to check it out.
I don't think they will extend it for carers, they wouldn't even have a look into it. That means that those who are really entitled wouldn't be able to use their entitlements so the gov. wins again.
