Depending on where they live in the P.I. but it should keep three family's for a month in a Philippine life style.

You're talking over 80,000 pesos a month in a country where the official minimum wage is about 400P a day. www.nwpc.dole.gov.ph/pages/ncr/cmwr_table.htmlIt depends on what sort of lifestyle you want for your family, I'd say send what you can afford out of your income.

Sorry, my mistake, I knew the rate, about 43, but forgot my 10 times tables. It's still ok but rememebr that Manila would be more expensive than the province. Edit: I actually do this deliberately every now and then so you guys don't think I'm perfect. ;D

@terry, im not trying to be anoying here but $1000 aus is 42,708.25 so computer sais ,so is that ok to live on in manila ,there is 3 of them 2 at school one working and they have a maid and pay rent I send about 10,000PhP per month....sometimes more...not much....just depends on the bills. What Banjo showed with the Philippine wage structure rates is that Manila is assessed at needing double the pay rate of the provinces. And the folk I support are in the provinces. Whether you are paying too much is unknown to me but given there is rent, maid, electricity, food...and presumably telephone...maybe internet....let alone transport...school fees.... I found the Philippines to be expensive. Meat is cheaper...but quality can be off....eggs are about the same...bread is the same...if not dearer....electricity is borderline....vegetables are definitely cheaper....rice is nominally cheaper but there is a government subsidy.... the single biggest saving is housing....AUD125 here is 1 month in the provinces....

What Bundy said hit the nail right on the head. If any money comes into the household aunties, uncles, cousins and long lost friends show up. So don`t believe the money is going to just them. Here it gets spread around real quick.

Hi Terry, I also agree with Bundy......$1,000 a month is an truly ENORMOUS amount of money in the Philippines. I've been there a couple of times, both in the city and countryside. $250 per week will buy a HUGE amount of food and rent. But that's what Filipinas do.....they work overseas and scrimp and save, then send it all back there. Family ties are stronger there than just about any other Asian country.

yes latindancer i think its a lot of money to,i have not been there yet but have met her family on skype, every time i see them they seem to be doing better there than im doing here ,they have every thing they want, but they are in manila 2 are going to collage and its realy only 250 a week for every thing ,no way could i live like that here for 250 a week, and i am happy 4 them ,but i was like a lot of people that think money goes a long way in philippines but not so,it depends where you are there and it seems manila is expensive just my luck lol, thanks .
