Recently a member, whose comments I appreciate, asked why we don't start a political movement.
And there are many members that I would like to sit down with over a cup of coffee, or tea if that is your bag, and just have a yarn about life, the universe and everything.
And I have been thinking about the whole political party thing since then, and it takes me some time to think things through, so I would like to chuck my 2 'bobs' worth into the ring, for what it is worth.
When I recently saw quoted numbers that there is something like 850,000 people who are recipients of the DSP and then that there are 550,000 of those that would be recipients of whatever largesse the NDIS boondoggle will deliver, leaving 300,000 outside the NDIS and compared that with the membership numbers of this board, 333, I started to appreciate, even more, what Banjo and Banker have achieved.
They started this in April 2010. I joined in early May 2012.
And I came here because of a change that occurred to my payment while I was holidaying overseas and I searched "au dsp overseas".
Unfortunately for me I did not read enough prior to returning to Australia a bit later in May 2012 and then finding out and being hung on the residency stuff. But that's okay.
What I am trying to say is that there are 333 members of this board, and maybe some of those board names are duplicates because people forgot their password, or something, so let us call it 300 members. And I have no idea how many are genuinely active!
Now if those 300, it's a nice round number at least, actually came to this site because they, like me, do have the DSP and are interested in going overseas and that's why they came to this board then I have a difficulty in determining how many DSP folk genuinely wish to go overseas.
So lets take that 300 membership number and double it, 600, double it again, 1200, double it again, 2400, again, 4800, 9600.
Lets take it up to 8 doubles which would be 38,400 and represent around 13% of that 300,000 DSP folk that will not be covered by the NDIS that want to live overseas or go overseas whenever they want for as long as they want.
And there is a nominal 300 members of this board!
I think someone said....do not believe a word that c/l says!
I did write and present the 'manifesto' for a political party in a former life. I even presented it to the Electoral Registrar where I was living at the time with the request that it be checked out for inadequacies. It got the thumbs up.
But it needed 200 signatories from people that were prepared to give their proper name and Australian address.
