Hope you're right, but remember the residency trap lurks in the background. Let's see, 6 months to my OAP = 4 plane flights = $$$$ Might have to get a loan off of Banker.

6 weeks is 3 payments @ so that's enough to fly in out returns are cheaper as the cost of living is so much cheaper in Thailand.

I dont know how you guys can do this. I dont pay rent and could barley survive doing the 3 month trips!
By touching base every 6 weeks it may help to strengthen the residency ties by default although Im certain c/l will try to find a way to ruin the party.

I am new to this forum tonight, but, in my information 'travels' I have some good news from a friend of mine who (until very recently) worked in CENTRELINK. With the NEW (6 weeks) RULES (effective January 1, 2013), my friend stated the following; The NEW 6 WEEK Rule, ONLY APPLIES to the 'Pensioner concession benefits' (Discounts), through the pension card; EG: Pension Concessions for Medicines, Travel, etc. The PENSION PAYMENTS STILL GO FOR A TOTAL OF 13 WEEKS. According to my friend, the Government would have too much 'hassles' changing the Pension Payments to 6 weeks. This is my latest "Intel." regarding overseas pensions. Also: Any ASIAN "Stop Overs" thinking of Darwin ? - Forget it ! All international flights with Darwin as their destination - ALL go to Darwin, AFTER FIRST STOPPING in PERTH. Perth International Airport is ALWAYS open 24/7/365. Ref: www.perthairport.com.au/index.aspxNow..., about MY situation; I personally, was born here, but, wish to 'migrate' to Indonesia, permanently. I am trying to find out how I can KEEP my pension there, as Indonesia is NOT one of the agreed countries, like England and New Zealand. Any Info would be appreciated Cheers

Welcome to the board Peter.
The only way you can live in a non-agreement country is to apply for and receive the Unlimited Portability.
Mate the portability period for the DSP is now 6 weeks, the legislation change was announced by Wayne Swan in last years federal budget. Your friend needs to keep track of events.

i'm interested in fly in fly out. I dont pay rent here in oz so can save a bit for the fares. Banjo's right though, we should be careful of our residency situations. I'm guessing 6weeks here then 6 weeks abroad will have to do me as I dont want to bugger up my residency. but if others can do 6 weeks abroad, then say a week in oz I would definately go for that.

I will be playing it safe and doing 6 weeks in and 6 weeks out. Spending 6 months and 1 day in Oz a year should be beat the residency trap..

dont be surprised if your 6 weekly trips are then used against you when applying for UP
It may be difficult to support chronic disability with a globe trotting passport.
