Are you being paid every 4 weeks yet? When I told them I wanted indefinite portability for my age pension they said that my payments would change to every 4 weeks but it's been nearly 3 months now and still hasn't happened. Check this Banjo (and CIS is Centrelink International Services which I didn't know) guidesacts.fahcsia.gov.au/guides_acts/ssg/ssguide-3/ssguide-3.10/ssguide-3.10.3/ssguide-3.10.3.40.html3.10.3.40 CIS Recipients - Payment Delivery Summary
CIS recipients are paid 4 weekly. Most of these recipients are paid by direct deposit to an overseas bank account. Some recipients will be paid by cheque to an overseas address every 4 weeks. Generally recipients who are residing outside Australia for 12 months or more will receive payment to an overseas bank account or cheque to an overseas address.Once you are on 28 day payment cycle your notification period extends from 14 days to 28 days... guidesacts.fahcsia.gov.au/guides_acts/ssg/ssguide-3/ssguide-3.10/ssguide-3.10.4/ssguide-3.10.4.30.html3.10.4.30 Notification Period for CIS Customers - 28 days Summary
Customers living overseas, who are administered by CIS, will have up to 28 days to report all changes. This maintains the existing reporting period for these customers, which recognises that it may not always be possible for overseas customers to comply with a 14-day notification period (1.1.N.125).

Very interesting NFA.
They encouraged me to get an overseas account but years of residency paranoia dissuaded me. I wonder if they only pay 4 weekly under those circumstance to reduce their bank fees by half? By paying into an Aussie bank they would have none at all.

I'm not sure that its to do with Australian bank fees as much as it is probably to do with Commonwealth overseas payment cycles where they are exposed to exchange rate variations and whatever international settlement fees might be applicable. Personally I want to have my payments into a Philippine bank account because I get the full exchange rate on the day as per the Reserve Bank of Australia rather than get clipped a percentage by a money exchange organization!

By having a OZ Bank Account, this helps with you if you have a problem in the future. I think it costs between $35 To $40 to do a international Bank Transfer not like Western Union. i believe they go on the amount you transfer. No matter which way you transfer money. Someone has to get there cut. Just my 2 cents worth lol

In Melbourne (im not sure about other states) there is a bank called Delphi bank, it's a greek cyoptic bank that lets u do international bank transfer for no fee. That's what a greek pensioner told me at my local pub. might not be 100 percent but maybe it might be worth looking into

I checked out Delphi Bank and unfortunately their fee free offers expired 30 September 2013.
It is an Australian Bank which is a division of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank so at least you don't have to worry about Cyprus banking 'laws'!

this is interesting, I have my Bendigo bank account in Australia and Bangkok Bank account here in Thailand, Bendigo said thay have set up my account so I can easily transfer money over here if needed. Will have to wait till I here from Centrelinl on my future UP payments and backpay now to find out how they will pay, I just thought it would keep going into my Bendigo account, never really thought they would send it here.

My take is that the indefinite portability of 2012 works differently to that that people grandfathered under the Act in previous years. They were declared to be non-residents entitled to the DSP. I watched the UP provisions very carefully but as far as I can see there was never any indication that non-residency would apply in this case. This will be little consolation if one of you guys goes back to Australia, loses the UP, and spends the next 12 months in the appeals system because Centrelink has made up a new rule about it.

Hello all. I am Jethro and I am brand new. This two year prison term which I can't fathom is a crock. In a few months I turn sixty five meaning I must leave Bali where I have lived now for some six years. So I go and do my two years, this means, because of our age difference, my Aussie wife of thirty seven years will remain here therefore separating us for the first time in our married life. For us both to go back at the same time means she would have to find a job, buy a car find a flat- very expensive and damned inconvenient.I just wonder has this two year rule thing has ever been challenged and been won? I have all the requirements applicable to apply and receive the OAP. Property, work history(over 35 years)Aussie bank accounts, a will indicating Family as benefactors etc. How can anyone say I have cut my ties with Aussie, how bloody sad it all is.

Hi Jethro, it is indeed a crock. If you are coming back for 2 years I strongly advise you to challenge it, it will give you something to do anyway.
Just as a suggestion, why don't you come back now and apply for NewStart? If they put you on that it's admitting you are a resident which could give you an edge when you apply for the Age pension in a few months.

To All Aussie Pensioners. This board started when a small group of Aussie Disability Support Pensioners decided that being told by Centrelink where they could and couldn’t live and how long and how frequently they could travel wasn’t good enough. As free Australians we wanted the rights of every other citizen. Since that time we’ve attracted other pensioners struggling with bad bureaucratic decisions, others have applied for pensions and consider they have been unfairly refused. Our aim now is to lend a sympathetic ear, to put everyone’s stories together, to advise where we can and to try to point people in the right direction. We are not political, if you have a problem with the ALP or the Liberal Party, take it to them, not us. We are not here to take on the Australian Government and their minions like Centrelink in a full frontal attack; we are not at the moment qualified to do so and may never be. We are here to tell them, “you are wrong, pensioners have the same rights as anyone else and if you want to deny them to us you’d better have a pretty good reason”. We have three Facebook pages, DSPoverseas, The Australian Pensioners Union and Australian Pensioners. At the moment they are mainly used to direct people to our forum. Banjo

I'm not sure why this has been re-posted but would like to point out that it's almost 4 years old and the game has changed considerably since then.

i wouldnt mind betting julia will give a few billion to the europeans at this forum france has just reduced its pension age down to 60 years For people on DSP, we have the right to choose the time to stay overseas, this is clear breach of our basic human rights and class action is the way to go.

Some of our smarter people took a long hard look at this and the consensus is that no one stops you leaving the country, that would be a clear breach of human rights. Whether the government has the right to withhold a pension from someone out of the country is where it gets flakey.
