I think we are on the way to an early election. Mr Turnbull wants to capitalize on his popularity and the royal commission into unions. He has cleaned out a couple of bad eggs from the ministry and wants to act like a clean skin. Thats my thoughts but we just have to see.

They are making noises of a DD on the basis of legislation being rejected by both houses and forcing it. Its a timely process though and will take at least 3 months from the first trigger.
History has shown the electorate views an unpopular govt attempting to use a DD to gain an advantage met with sceptisism. And this IS an unpopular govt with only its bounce being created by Turnbull not being Abbott. Malcomns not very good at running these sorts of campaigns, as his last attempt to do so with the Godwin Gretch episode bringing him undone then.
The union movement isnt stupid though, and will use this to their benefit by ridding itself of some baddies and therefore looking good to the electorate as being progessive.
What other nasties will LNP try and inflict during it? More changes to Medicare, welfare and more demonization?

We have though gone off thread with this, as the issue was with Daves OAP portability question. I well now better understand the issue of this obscure 2 year residency requirement and its lack of any clear ground rules. As Dave has said he has written to Senator Seiwert about his specific case. Her office is within 1 klm of where I live, so I will speak with her personally about the criteria in a generic sense.
We have enough quality questions to ask her now to seek the actual criteria which CL uses to determine these issues.

I was discussing another issue with MikeCNX today and had cause to look up my SSAT decision on residency a couple of years back and came across this paragraph.
9. The tribunal noted the email sent from the Centrelink International Help Desk Seniors and International Branch on 7 December 2010 at Folio 49 of the Tribunal papers which stated:
“… a DSP recipient does not have to remain an Australian resident to continue to qualify for the DSP from a residence perspective unless they rely on having a qualifying residence exemption from the residence requirement due to being a refugee.
This means that a DSP recipient can leave Australia permanently or be deemed to no longer be residing in Australia by Centrelink and still qualify for the DSP in their absence. Payability will cease after 13 weeks and therefore they need to return to Australia to maintain payability. There is no minimum time required for which they must remain in Australia to reset the 13 week portability clock and so technically they may land in Australia, go through customs and leave Australia the same or next day and be payable for a further 13 weeks.
So they had to change the legislation because they could not make the residency "rules" of the DSP portability stick. There is similarly no "minimum" period that Age Pension applicants had to spend in Australia to qualify for portability.

The law is simple in regards to portability and to the oap. You must be a resident to apply for the aged pension. You must have been resident for two years before it is portable.
That is the law in simple terms. Getting a definition of resident is where it can get tricky.

Never let the agent who is selling your house know you want to leave fast. But you have info coming from Seiwet as well.

yes Mike, I am just waiting to see the out come from Mrs Seiwet. I also got a letter from Doug Cameron.Have a short read.LOL very short. Also if the house doesn't sell I will have to stay here longer.
Thank you for your email in relation to the portability of pensions. I apologise for the delay in responding. As the issues you raise are matters of policy, I have forwarded to the Shadow Minister for Families and Payments, the Hon. Jenny Macklin MP for her investigation and direct response.
Yours sincerely
Senator Doug Cameron
Shadow Minister for Human Services
Senator for NSW

So why wont they give us the guide lines they use to determine residency? If you travel overseas for a year? Two years? Five? When does your qualification for Old Age portability become effected? Because there are none, they make it up as they go along. I visited the office of senator seiwert today and raised the thrust of this thread. To that end, CL will be asked to present the legislation or regulation which they use to determine qualification for OAP portability. During my my conversation with the staff at the senators office they became aware totally what our concerns and questions are about this. More to come.
