The elections over and we need to look at the possible consequences for pensioners short and long term. We'll finish up the political discussion now, there's no point in flogging dead horses and this isn't a political forum. Tomorrow I'll start cleaning up the old ministerial threads and we'll look at the incoming people. I'll point out now that if anyone wants to personally attack any new government minister or senior public servant, please put your correct full name, address and telephone number on the bottom of the post. This will help clear your forum administrator of any responsibility.

Banjo, this is correct cos Australia has no freedom of speech in its constitution and we dont want that you get in trouble for something.

Keep agreeing with me my boy and you'll go a long way in this forum.
Actually anyone prepared to come out from behind the keyboard and attack the new government would be far better doing it through the media. That's if they can find an outlet that still allows an independent point of view after Murdoch picks up his pay packet for services rendered.

Banjo, after Snowden came out with all the NSA stuff have to be careful with what you type, say, sms, twitter.... They save all and use it against you later. I got a friend in USA who had to leave the country cos he was under survailance. He just spoke out...
Australia also signed ACTA which most people dont even know what it is and never heard about it. In many countries people went on the streets and were against it. The media here didnt even cover this.
Its not the government who controls what is been done is the people with money behind them who wants to get their interests across.
If someone thinks an election has something to do with democracy than why some parties can spend 100 mio of dollars on advertising and some other dont have fund. Question: where does the money come from?
If someone gives me 250mio dollars today i bet i have a good chance to open a party and be in parlament next election.
Keep it safe mate.

I think the consequences to us really depend on how determined Abbott and co. are to balance their budget, and how quickly. If they go for a balanced budget right away, the whole country will be facing serious austerity. Great for the rich (after a short adjustment, anyway); terrible for the rest of us.
Let's hope that election promise disintegrates on contact with reality, like so many do...

Man, I hope that's wrong! Annual medical assessments?!? Why?!?!?!? What parts of 'incurable' and 'progressive' are gonna change, about my condition? What part of 'permanent' is gonna change about the injuries many other people here have? Taxpayers money well-spent, that'd be, double-checking that 'permanent' still means 'permanent' and 'incurable' still means 'incurable.
If my condition was cured tomorrow, I would very happily go back to work, all by myself, no pushing from CL necessary. Even a minimum wage job would improve my financial situation dramatically.
Chances of that happening? There's no possible cure in the research pipeline, even, which means we're at least 20 years from a cure -- and even if it happened sooner, I have so much scarring on internal organs that it's doubtful I'd be fixed. Or anywhere near it, even.
If they wanna spend a few hundred (or a few thousand) dollars of taxpayers' dollars checking and re-checking that every single year... well, I'd say good luck to them, but getting all those medical reports done once in a while sucks enough, let alone every single year.
They get that for genuine DSP claimants, jumping through hoops to prove we're still disabled every single year is actually kind of hard, right? Oh yeah, that's the point...

Wondering how they gonna reassess 850 000 people every year? 250 working days in a year means they have to assess every day 3400 people !!!
I guess they will build new reassessment centre for DSP, will be a 10 storey building in each major city.
--laughing my butt off--.

I always asked them if they need other doctors papers past years. They never wanted any and if they want some i will give it to them. Dont be scared about Abbott cos he can win either way, if he kicks many of DSP than you will see unemployment rate break 10% and that is not looking good at all.

That's still over 1,100 people they'd have to assess every working day of the year. Not just interview, but complete a whole assessment! That's a lot of extra work for the wonderful CL bureaucrats to get done; wondering how many extras they'll have to hire to get all that done... and whether there'll be any net savings, once they've paid all those people to do all those assessments to kick just a few off DSP.

In the UK they are now reassessing all 2 million people on the disability pension over a 4 year period and they expect half a million to lose it. So l guess its possible to assess so many www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/9263453/500000-to-lose-disability-benefit.html
