Chris, I'm not too far from you about 300 k'ms away in Angeles. I was only suggesting if you were not getting the quality of Beef you were missing. If I had to I would make the trip for 300 K'ms round trip even once a month to stock up on the small treats we end up missing. Any way we should have a San Miguel or a Red Horse one time

I'm lucky being in Bohol, theres some pretty good supermarkets there. I can get decent beef that cooks up ok and heaps of seafood, even oysters from time to time. one thing that made me laugh a couple of yrers ago though was I was in Island City mall supermarket meat section buying some ground beef. (beef mince). it was the better qualitry one, the other one was pretty fatty looking. well they only had a small bit there at 180p a kg. I asked if they had more, sure she said. they then took the beef pieces from another tray that was 210p a kg and ground it... so 180p ground, or 220p unground, but they use the same beef! had to laugh at this one.
as for fresh milk. well most people call UHT (ultra heat treated) milk in a carton fresh milk. most have never even had fresh milk, but we were so lucky last year. A mate heard about Holstien cows in Ubay that had good milk. the boys loaded up the wagon with bottles and containers and headed up there. they said the whole place was really well run. they even had to wash the car underneath and wash thier boots when entering the joint. The milk was awesome! so much thick cream on top. i bought 6 litres but the mrs and rugrats didnt like it as it was too strong for them! i got fat on mango smoothies that week!
ok, now about cheese. The same joint makes cheese, but its still expensive. Think theres mozarella they make as well. I head back this weekend to Bohol and tomorrow am buying 10kg of tasty cheese ($6/kg) from Aldi and taking that in my bags. It lasts the trip ok and I just freeze what isnt put in the ref.
Im sure ill take a bit of salami as well, and chocolates (the $1 aldi ones are a winner!)

I found wrapping cheese in several layers of newspaper would keep it cool and fresh for a couple of days.

LOL, seen it myself. ... as for fresh milk..... many lifetimes ago I did some piece rate work for a bloke who's father had the contract to warehouse and export bags of Murray Goulburn milk powder. Packing shipping containers was the job. I've recently been thinking of importing milk powder from either AU or NZ. Nestle seem to have the Philippine market for milk products.

I spent time in Pampanga, Subic, Olongapo, that's very much different from living 11 km out of Vigan on a small farm. We go to bed at 8-9 PM, you guys go out around that time. We pretty much forget about all the "good stuff" here. We get down to Maccas about twice a month and that's probably the highlight. I'm much more into local foods which are different from even normal Filipino foods. I ride a bike and will go north for a few bowls of miki miki, the local soup made with coconut milk, small shrimp and bits of pork. 25 pesos a bowl, amazing stuff, as is the waitress normally. Vice versa mate, you come up here anytime.

Chris, Sounds like a plan I have always wanted to see Vigan it has a lot of history. Mate my days of going out after 9pm are long gone I get around with a walking stick so makes life a bit of a challenge. Is the small shrimp that's mixed with the pork and coconut milk Bagaong? sounds tasty I'm the same as you I don't eat much Aussie style food I'm more into local foods and then once in a while you get the odd craving for a particular food and I suppose I'm lucky its all in easy reach for me here.

Yes you got the idea of it. No Bagaong in the miki, although they put it in everything else. I had a big bowl this morning, masarap. There's a few different versions of it, although the Filipinos would insist on rice, 2 bowls of miki would be a lunch for me.
Vigan is about a 2 day limit. Nice place but you could cover it in a day. People do seem to like it, not sure why, but the cobblestone streets and the architecture remind people of Spain or old Mexico.
Let me know if ever you are coming up here.

Let me know if there is a meet up at Vigan. Can probably do it closer to Christmas. Either side.

Yeah, you guys should get together, we have a pretty good support group here but there's nothing like talking it out face to face.
I'm going to have one in Chiang Mai hopefully this month, a long term member has moved there full time and we have a couple of new people there as well. Be nice to catch up with some of the old guys.

Maybe folks don't realise but in Argao you can talk face to face. Pretty confronting but. I intend being in Chiang Mai next year, end of August or early September 2016. At the end of my 3 year sojourn here in the Philippines. Not to say I will not return here to the Philippines and, mind you, Cambodia looks good.

Really Denis?
Cambodia looks like Bangkok (talking city life here, Phnam Phen), did probably in the 80's. Everything cheaper, unlimited girls, food similar pet nit noi, a little bit hot. I can't get over there currently, but I would if I could.
We have an occasion here 7th November. Double Baptism, 2 birthdays all combined. Got people coming from all over. That would be the time to come up. Incredibly hard trip though Denis, coming up from Australia would be easier.

My invite is to anyone anytime coming to Vigan. House extension under construction, to be ready by 7th November. We have had 3 visitors (forum related) 2 years. Quite primitive here but people were raving about the tranquility, the rural setting, don't know exactly.
And in general people like Vigan. In particular it's small and has no traffic problems.

I'm setting my sails to be in Vigan on the 8th January, 2016. LOL... Travel. I go by bus from Argao to Cebu. Then catch a plane Cebu to Manila. By the time I do all that is probably a working day. Then all I know after that is get to something called the JAM Transit in Quezon City and then sit on a Partas Bus Co bus for hours. If it is quicker to fly back to Australia and then up in your neck of the woods then kindly let me know.
