Palmer pledges extra $150 a fortnight on disability pension
THE Palmer United Party has promised to increase the disability pension by $150 a fortnight. Party leader Clive Palmer announced the policy to journalists in Canberra today, saying the federal government's national disability scheme did not go far enough. Mr Palmer said the scheme only catered for people aged up to 65. He said his changes would mean that 100% of people with disabilities would benefit through either the NDIS or the Centrelink pension increase. Asked how he would fund it, Mr Palmer said it was a matter of priorities. "There are some things that you do because it is the right thing to do,'' Mr Palmer said. "Do we think national broadband is more important than people suffering in their own homes?'' Mr Palmer said the federal government should be spending more on providing those with disabilities the ability to lead as meaningful and productive lives as possible. He said society was too quick to judge people by their appearance or disability rather than what they could contribute. Mr Palmer said the policy would benefit 25% of Australians with some form of disability. The announcement comes on top of his plan to offer tax cuts of $2500 to average Australians by reducing the tax rate by 15%. Mr Palmer said he had announced policies in the past few days which would provide a combined $94 billion stimulus to the national economy. He said the policy was funded through savings in Centrelink payments as more people obtained employment through a productive economy as well as extra GST revenues as people spent money. The mining magnate said it would particularly benefit the construction industry. He said it may lead to interest rate increases but that would be a good thing for independent retirees relying on that income from investments. Mr Palmer said it was a better to have a vibrant economy with 4 to 5% base rates with full employment than people relying on jobs. www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/news/palmer-pledges-extra-150-fortnight-disability-pens/1997355/ Clive has invited me to have a chat with him on his private jet, he is picking me up from Sydney Airport, after I have a few Stellas and watch the aeroplanes from the upstairs open air viewing deck of the Terrace Bar, possibly the only place in Australia where they have Stella Artois on tap. Perhaps we will fly to Tahiti... What I will say to him is: given that the Australian Electoral Commission said that he won his Fairfax (Sunshine Coast) seat by 36 votes, and given that the above newspaper article was distributed in the Sunshine Coast and read by about 5000 Disability Support Pensioners who voted in his electorate of Fairfax, it is certain that his announcement on 26 August 2013 resulted in at least 500 Disability Support Pensioners changing their vote, to vote for him in the Fairfax electorate, and give him victory. He owes a debt of gratitude to the Disability Support Pensioners.

So, its not Palmer who is the King Maker to the liberals but an undercover group of of DSP agents embedded in the Gold Coast who will secretly control the parliament. I like it, I like it....

Could Palmer somehow convince Abbott to increase the DSP by $150 ?, l don't think so, wouldn't the DSP then be higher then the old age pension which would upset the old people who would complain they are getting less then us. Do you think Plamers party either will want to stop or be able to stop any negative changes to the DSP such as if Abbott wants to bring in Annual medical checks.

I don't even like to guess about such things, nothing really to form an opinion on. A reform government is unlikely to hand out big welfare increase to anyone.

Palmer also promised to increase the OAP, by the same amount I think. The point is that Palmer is on the side of the DSPers, he owes us, because we elected him in Fairfax, with perhaps 500 DSPer votes switching to him after he made the announcement, giving him a margin of 36 votes to win. He made the promise, the DSPers voted for him in Fairfax, he owes us. I have said in a previous post, that Kevin Andrews has few options other than to order a medical review of all DSPers under the 2011 Impairment Tables, I think this is something he can do as Minister.

Our old friend Senator Fifield, and also Senator Fierravanti-Wells, have ministerial responsibilities in the area of the DSP, and they have both been keeping a close watch on the DSP in the Senate Estimates Committee:

Could you provide a further breakdown for the psychological/psychiatric category. Answer: The table below provides the number of transfers from Disability Support Pension with a primary medical condition in the psychological/psychiatric category to other income support payments for each month between October 2012 and February 2013 as provided in the response to QoN 294. SO, the information shows that the number of people on the DSP is declining, and 5851 people left the DSP from April to May 2013, only 30 of these left to Newstart, and of these 30, 11 were in the psychological/psychiatric category.

Kevin Andrews is an interesting, intellectual Minister, and it is well worth reading his website: kevinandrews.com.au/He wrote an interesting, intellectual article for Quadrant, about the Greens, well worth reading. Basically what Kev has to decide is whether he wants to dump 300,000 DSPers onto Newstart or not. And create hundreds of "Andrews Lumps" in the extensive parklands around central Melbourne. "Andrews Lumps" are similar to "Hoovervilles", excepting that they will be in the seventh wealthiest sovereign nation on earth. Kev is also a follower of the Church of Rome, and we have regular faith-based discussions on these matters.

A quick calculation:
300,000 DSPers X $120 less per week on Newstart / divided by 11 million taxpayers = $3.27 per week for the average taxpayer.
So, after Kevin Andrews dumps 300,000 DSPers onto Newstart, the average taxpayer will have $3.27 per week more to spend.
$3.27 could buy a cheap cup of coffee....I wonder what that coffee will taste like when they are watching all of the homeless ex-DSPers milling around on the streets.

Yes from what l read if everyone on the DSP was to be re-assessed under the new tough 2011 medical tables around 300,000 would lose it, but Abbott wont move them onto Newstart because that would increase the unemployment rate making him look like a bad economic manager so instead he will probably create a second DSP that will be a lower rate then the DSP with mutual obligation, pity much newstart with a different name. He could in fact use the money he saves to increase Newstart by $50 bucks a week to try to reduce the public opposition and from the welfare rights people. Maybe he will say to the senate if you pass my tough DSP crackdown l will increase newstart in return as a trade off. That's just a theory, hopefully it wont happen

That's just a theory, hopefully it wont happen So while John Howard spent 11 years, stealthily, secretly hiding these 300,000 on the DSP as the Hidden Unemployed, 3 percentage points off the Unemployment Rate, Tony Abbott is going to brazenly expose his plan to the Australian public: YES!, look what we are doing, taking those 300,000 hidden unemployed from the DSP, adding another 200,000 who are on Newstart now with mild disabilities, and heck, lets add another 200,000 from Newstart with even milder disabilities such as acne, smoking, mild alcohol abuse, sore elbows, bruises, scratches and headaches. Suddenly, Tony Abbott will have created the AUSTRALIAN ECONOMIC MIRACLE. While the United States and Europe are struggling with 10 % unemployment, he has reduced unemployment in Australia to TWO PER CENT !!!

I'd hardly describe anyone who chooses the law and then politics as a career as intellectual regardless of of their capacity to retain the information required to obtain the necessary qualifications. I read very little Quadrant, probably about as much as Andrews reads New Matilda. There was an article from it posted here recently ranting about pensioners spending the taxpayers money overseas.

I have trouble understanding religious politicians. Do they pray for the poor and then vote for a pay rise for themselves or pray for their pay rises and vote against increased income for the poor?

Yes Abbott calls himself a Christian, l don't think Jesus would tow back the boats. l don't think Jesus would live on $500 bucks a day like politicans do while those on newstart live on $35 per day
