With the electronic stuff most airlines tell you to turn it off for take off and landing.

I recently secured a very cheap airfare with Cebu Pacific, Sydney to Manila for under $500-. They offer onboard wi-fi, I think it is $15- for the entire 7 1/2 flight, or $5 for 1 hour. The also do a pop quiz where they ask questions about Cebu Pacific destinations and you can win Ceb-Pac merchandise .....

Domestically, electronic devices are ok now here in oz as long as in flight mode on take off. Virgin has an entertainment app, that you can download and watch for free on their airplane wifi. Air asia still tells you to turn them off, but they only care if it's obvious. Always find it funny flying into phnom penh, and the sound of the old nokia sms ringtones going off throughout the plane, since the locals never turn their mobiles off.

I have flown Flybe and Ryanair and not had any problems with them.

I believe that if you use a budget airline with the full understanding of their shortcomings and be prepared for all eventualities then they are good value for money.
I see Air Asia was offering 100B fares this week but you had to book 7 or 8 months ahead.

My first trip overseas, which was 2013, was with emerites. The last few trips though have been with airasia and it's been perfectly fine. I take my own entertainment, just load up the tablet, and i'm happy. Never had an issue, even with my carry on bag usually being over 15kg
