we didn't see that coming did we? Not even me, though many told me to wait and see maybe it's not gonna be that bad. Actually it's much worse.
So does this insane 4 weeks also will need to pass through the senate? If it does I suggest to start writing to whoever we think can help.
Ideas? email contacts? etc.

My family is o/seas, and my mum is very ill, cancer. She's over 80 and had several big surgeries, and can't travel at all. So how dare they deny me the right to see her? I'm sure I'm not alone with this What are we gonna do now?

I think he is a good chance to lobby for blocking certain DSP and other pension changes in the senate
I'm certainly writing to him now because he stands up to any other politician and won't be intimidated or bullied even by the Qld Premier .

Going on past experience, if you leave on the 31st December this year, or any time before that date, you get 6 weeks.

I was warned after my last trip that they were looking at tightening the rules to stop people taking 6 weeks, then flying into Darwin for a day and leaving for another 6 weeks. So I assumed they might make it compulsory to stay in Australia for a certain time between trips.
Dropping it to one 6 week trip a year would be annoying, inconvenient, expensive. But dropping it to 4 weeks and then making that the maximum for a year has a couple of obvious purposes.
The treasurer already said last night he will increase GST. By limiting the amount of time we spend in Australia (decreasing the time we can spend outside Australia) they are increasing the tax revenue from GST, because we are forced to pay more for everything we spend here. That applies even without GST increases.
The other obvious thing is that there will be many more people who are not quite sure how they will go if they are reassessed under the latest rules, who will be tempted to apply for U/P. People like me who have multiple disabilities and were assessed on a cumulative score, and who might not get a full 20 points on one item.
These people could then be assessed as able to work for 8 hours, whether they can or not and nudged off the DSP.
The sad thing about this country is that it doesn't matter who you vote for, it is always Lab or Lib that get in and they both look after the rich.
Years ago we had a rather corrupt system of unionism, but the unions at least made a lot of noise and tried to keep lifestyle and conditions up. The world has effectively banned unions. Now we have corrupt government, or rather, government by big business. It has ever been thus. Right back to ancient history. And there's little we can do about it.
I used to have a quiet chuckle when I watched movies about the future showing the mass population herded and bullied and watched.
I don't laugh any more.

Yes l'm in the same boat , l have two disabilities so l don't know how l would go under the stupid new medical tables they bought in 2012 where you need to get 20 points for a single one, l think they said 40% of people on the DSP now would fail, so l don't want to risk reassessment

I have been reading all I can this morning looking for responses and you know what? I cant find one person in the media, pensioner or not that has bought this up. That would be because most will never find it where its slotted now among the student profiles.
Im sending off emails to where ever I can today. This 4 weeks rubbish has caught us all off guard, who would of thought?

... These people could then be assessed as able to work for 8 hours, whether they can or not and nudged off the DSP. ... This is not the case. "has an inability to: -work independently of a program of support (1.1.I.95) within the next 2 years" guides.dss.gov.au/guide-social-security-law/1/1/c/330"Working independently of a program of support means a person is able to reliably work 15 or more hours per week in the open labour market where wages are at or above the relevant minimum wage without requiring regular and ongoing assistance that is significant, either in hours or intensity, to maintain the employment." guides.dss.gov.au/guide-social-security-law/1/1/i/95... the stupid new medical tables they bought in 2012 where you need to get 20 points for a single one ... Nor is this the case. "As part of the qualification for DSP a person must have one or more physical, intellectual or psychiatric impairment(s) that attract a total impairment rating of 20 points or more under the Impairment Tables (1.1.I.10)." guides.dss.gov.au/guide-social-security-law/3/6/2/100
