Tony Abotts 2014 budget said 4 weeks max , to stay overseas, is this correct ?
Also why are there no restrictions in that budget for the Age pension ? age pensioners can live overseas permanently !

Well, because age pensioners are not perceived as "bludgers"
Yes 4 weeks is correct starting 1/1/15

Plus we have a vocal and high profile voting group. If DSP recipients could get their shit together like Age pensioners they would be a lot better off.

The way I see it, no govt can justify tell people they can work or not based on age while 70 year olds work careing for 40 year olds and those 40 year olds can't get dsp. It will come down to ability. It won't be long before oap's will be assessed for work making us all dsp'ers.

Plus they will get rid of the home asset test such that a pensioner will have their pension reassessed according to some Government Departments evaluation of the value of the home. The whole point is to get rid of Section 51(23) of the Australian Constitution. And in fact their intent is to get rid of the entire Australian Constitution and replace it with a "Republic" and a "Bill of Rights" that 'they' can manipulate at their will.

well last time i phoned and told them I was going over seas the boy told me thank you for phoning and letting us know of your plans to travel overseas as we do not know when you leave the country only when you come back ?? and this is correct as when you come home and use the new passport control thing you get an email saying that your next pension will be on a certain date again this time when I came home it was not working and had to go through the old passport control with a human and when i phoned they did not know i was back so food for thought you may say I know of many people overseas who still get there pension after 1-2 years and they did not tell any one they were going any where

They know when you go and when you come back... if they want to know. They have a direct link to immigration and they just type in your name.
I'm sure that the people who have been hiding overseas will love you mentioning it on a public forum. While it's perfectly possible, one day they will have to go back and then they will be paying it back for years to come as well as being reassessed under the new rules.
Who you have probably met are people who are grandfathered under earlier DSP portability conditions. I know a guy at MaeSai whose not been back for 20 years.

I think if u use your 6 weeks this year, u'll still have 4 weeks in 2015. But don't take it granted. CL doesn't know it either, and till this passes through the senate, they won't know it.

I'd wait till later in the year and ask them before you book.

Hi guys, just looking at re graham1953 question,
I have recently sent of emails to Kevin Andrews, DSS and C/L asking pretty much the same question, to clarify that if I left oz on the 31st Dec14 and going for 6 wks, is this under the current portability provison so then am I entitled to the 4 weeks for the following 12 months after I return which would be approx. middle feb/15. Still waiting for answers,
on reading the quoted section below, I believe the crucial wording is if * absence that occurred before that commencement *...is that commencement of ur absence prior to 1/1/15 , I thinking that if you notify C/L and leave oz prior to the implementation of the new rules, that one should be allowed the 6 weeks because you leave under the current portability rules..and then on returning subject to the new rules. Any thoughts out there... * Item 10 provides for the application and transitional provisions. The amendments are to apply in relation to temporary absences that start on or after 1 January 2015. In applying the amendments in relation to temporary absences that start on, or in the first 12 months after, the commencement of this Schedule, days of temporary absence that occurred before that commencement are to be ignored.*
