100,000 tap into Centrelink
More than 100,000 online claims have been made at Centrelink since new services went live in May.
Minister for Human Services, Senator Marise Payne said the Newstart Allowance and Parenting Payment were the latest additions to a range of Centrelink payments that could be claimed online.
"Making Government services more accessible and efficient is one of my key priorities," Senator Payne said.
"Introducing online claiming for Newstart Allowance and Parenting Payment is good news for both customers and staff," she said.
"It means these customers aren't waiting in line when they don't have to."
She said it also freed up staff to help people who had more complex needs.
"Feedback from both customers and staff is positive, as it is easy to use and applications can be processed faster than through other options," Senator Payne said.
To lodge a claim online, people need to have an existing Centrelink online account with the appropriate level of access.
"In some cases, customers may receive a one-off prompt to provide extra information proving their ownership of the account and to upgrade their online access before completing their claim," Senator Payne said.
People signing up for a myGov account at my.gov.au can link their Centrelink Online account with other services including Medicare, Child Support and the Australian Taxation Office.
