Hello Greenman Yes i have a funny feeling that they will hold off with bill #6 until after January ( as the Senate may not have enough time in this years final 12 sittings )then announce new changes including assessment for DSP'rs over 35 ( 35 to 45 years )then and effective at the budget ( May / June ) This is what mining magnates Gina Reinhardt , Andrew Forrest want and also Murdoch , of course the Libs #1 financial supporter . Eventually they want government to legislate that only DSP is paid to the very severely disabled , wheel chair bound or totally mentally incapacitated. They don't accept that any episodic mental illness exits , ESPECIALLY to anyone under 50 years of age. They are also are passionate that all under 35s who claim to suffer episodic mental illness are simply rorting the system and budging as refusing to work Do they have the resources to reassess or force all the 35-45 year old into compulsory partipcation next year, they must still be busy dealing with the under 35's . l hope not anyway as l'm in that age range. Yes as struggling said the governments plan to to kick everyone off the DSP that doesn't have a so called ' profound disability probably around half currently on the DSP. They are not going to do this overnight because that would be too politically damaging if all of a sudden tens of thousands of disabled thrown into poverty and unemployment so their plan is to do it slowly and sneakily over the course of 3 to 5 years , if they win the next election. They started with the under 35's and will work their way upward based on age probably. The reason people like Murdoch , reinahart and forrest have said they support this so called ' welfare reform' is because they see the billions spent on welfare helping the unemployed and disabled as wasted money which instead should go to them in the form of corporate welfare, company tax breaks and mining subsidies. The DSP costs $15 billion a year if ABbott kicks half the people off it then that saves $8 billion which can then go to Gina Reinahart, Murdoch and twiggy to upgrade their feet of private Yachts or jets.

The Federal government will reportedly launch a crackdown on disability "rorters" falsely claiming a pension. The stricter laws will stop up to 50,000 people claiming disability annually, saving as much as $70 million, the Daily Telegraph has reported. Under new legislation to be introduced from January 1, anybody seeking a disability pension will have to undergo an examination by a government-appointed doctor. There is a perception in the government that some doctors across the country are easy targets for people falsely applying for disability. Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews said using Commonwealth-appointed doctors would ensure "consistency" among successful applicants. "This measure is not aimed at those who may never be able to work, but rather at people who can work with independent advice and the right support," he said. Mr Andrews said it would benefit the country to have more people off welfare. In July he ordered a thorough review of the disability pension, after more than 800,000 people across the country were found to be claiming it. Since the review began, more than 8,000 people have been sent to employment agencies to find a job. © ninemsn 2014 Read more at www.9news.com.au/national/2014/12/12/06/54/government-cracking-down-on-disability-rorters#dy74wjacCkzX23wK.99

Ever since the Telegraph had this scoop, I've been following all the different news media thanks to google news and how they've reported it. Obviously the Tele was first and played the rorters card, but interestingly the other Murdoch papers actually printed the optnion of labour and disability advocates. Fairfax were balanced and the Guardian supported pensioners as expected. From all of this, I think these are possible facts as far as I can tell. 2000 DSP applications a week, of which 1000 are approved, so the 50,000 figure is the amount currently rejected a year. The intention of using commonwealth doctors was to reject an extra 5% that the Libs think are slipping through the cracks. As Chris Bowen said, whenever the Coalition has a crisis, Andrews has a thought bubble about the DSP to distract attention from suffering they are actually inflicting on the daily telegraph readership. i posted a link to the actual statistics a month or so ago, and I think the numbers were actually much lower than this. The actual 2014 figures will be out in the new year.

I see it as part of a larger plan that kicked off a few years ago with the "JetSet Pensioners" story that triggered this forum. The intention seems to have been to embarrass the Rudd/Gillard governments for mishandling pensioners then to laud the new Liberal regime for "fixing up the mess".
In truth, Labour instigated many of the cuts and new assessment procedures that are doing so much damage now.

Alas, labour only do enuf to protect a possible vote, but not enuf to protect the vulnerable. I've voted for Wilkie twice, I know he's on our side, but it hasn't done much.
