When travelling outside Australia you should check to see how your travels may affect your payment. You can now do this quickly and easily using your Centrelink account, through myGov. To tell us about your overseas travel, log on to myGov and select your Centrelink account, select Personal Details from the side menu and then select Travelling Outside of Australia. You can then input your travel plans. After answering a few simple questions, you will see information tailored to your circumstances about how your payment will be affected, and any recommended action you should take before you depart. Once you have advised us of your travel details you will be provided with a receipt number to confirm your details have been updated. If your circumstances are more complex, you will be advised to phone or visit us so we can discuss your plans in more detail. You can also now use your Centrelink online account to: - view your current and future overseas travel details we already know about
- add new details for future overseas travel for your partner’s or dependants’ details if they are travelling with you
- update or remove future overseas travel details
- update certain travel details while you are overseas
It is important your details are up to date before you travel. You can now update more of these details online, including overseas phone details, interpreter spoken language details and edit future contact details. This is in addition to what you could already update including your email address and phone and internet subscriber details. www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/news/travelling-outside-Australia-tell-us-online

I am not sure what you tried to enter, but it won't work for your circumstances, not everyone on DSP or Age Pension.

Sounds like they haven't worked out how to program their own rules yet.
So under 4 weeks, no notification is necessary, according to their website, as customs tracks your re-entry. Over 4 weeks they like you to call.

If you have any doubts at all contact Centrelink International, better than worrying about it and getting problems at the last moment

I had the same problem today. Tried to notify Centrelink on line of my intended travel and it came up that I had to contact them as the circumstances were complicated. So for over an hour I tried to get them on the phone but alas all I got was the engaged tone. I only knew about this 28 day rule from a friend. There was no notification at all. I knew from the news when Gillard changed it to 6 weeks and I thought that was bad enough, now to find out its only 4weeks in a 12 month period is really disheartening. To save for a holiday on afixed income is hard enough and takes a long time so to be told that I only have 4 weeks to see what I want to see, just infuriates me! I cant keep affording all of those plane fares every year and whose to say that my disability wont get worse to the point that I cant travel anymore? Again the weak are targetted with no thought of the long term affects.

Welcome to the board munchcjv About the only option you have at this stage is to take as much time as you can afford without being paid. This is allowable for up to 13 weeks, Centrelink suspends your pension and then it's reinstated on your return.
