From what I was told, 28 days will restart 1 year from original departure date. Although perhaps only 21 days may be available from January until October. I'm 100% sure though. I've been advised time resets on previous departure date to previous duration. Therefore on your example 21 days would reset from January and 7 days would reset from October so 28 days would be available from October.
Cheers bear Thanks Bear, sounds like it could get complicated though and we've all had experience of Centrelink trying to deal with anything complicated.

Hi Banjo and Members I am new to this site and i have been on dsp for a while and during that time have travelled o/s to see family.I am applying for changes to my portability so that i can be with my family longer as they are aware of my condition.I am sure that they will use that against me during the assessment but what they do not know is that i have a terminal disease of the brain which i was given 15 years from date of diagnosis and further confirmed by my doctor by having a mri this also increases my original condition.I see my GP tomorrow to fill out one form but the the other two i cannot remember much on what is asked.I have allready been told that i could loose the dsp and another person tells me something different.I am quite concerned that they will use the times i travevelled o/s against me and also that if i have a medical problem during the assessment i will be not entitled to any changes to the present portability rules.

Welcome to the forum saree you will get alot of useful information from here goodluck on your unlimited portability application and yes everybody who applies for unlimited portability risks the loss of the dsp if your JCA says that you dont have 20 points over the tables that your assessed in but you always have the option to appeal thaere decisions if its not in your favor as you say that you have a terminal brain disease and your doctor confirms that and you have all the latest reports from your doctor and specialists than i think you will have no problem in being approved for unlimited portabity but you have to have 20points in one single table and a 0-7 hours with no future work capacity to be sucsessfull for u/p anyway goodluck gather up all ur doctors and specialist reports and go for it and goodluck

As Anthony says, you can only get started and then work off the result if you're not happy.
Loss of DSP is unlikely, we don't see it happen often.

Hi everyone I am very new to this. Could you please help me by giving your advice. I am on DSP, I went to O.S. on 4/12/14. Returned on 26/1/15. I was paid for Six weeks 42 days i.e upto 14/1/15. Again, I went to O.S. 3 days 30/6/15 to 02/7/15 for Acute Family Crisis. Unfortunately, the OVERLAPPING period from 1/1/2015 to 14/1/15 (14 days) and 30/6/15-02/07/15(3days). Total 17 days also counted for 28 days in 12 months period. My question is can I travel O.S. from 02/1/16 for 27 days. PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR ADVICE AND HELP ME
