I can't believe my son's application was denied. He is a double transplant recipient currently undergoing rejection. Side affects from his medication make him sick and day to day life is debilitating. Immunosuppressive medicine means he's always at risk of illness and when he gets sick it usually means hospital. Hypertension and type 1 diabetes are added to his growing list of ailments. Osteoporosis and bone degeneration due to high doses of steroids mean at 23 he walks like an old man. Mental health is fragile being diagnosed with chronic depression and PTSD. I could go on and on but I think you get the message. It makes me so sad and am looking for any advice.
I looked at the impairment table and can not understand how the 20 points he requires to qualify was not met.

Welcome to the board mumto4 You need to get straight into the appeals process by asking for a review and if you think it's going to be too hard for you ring Welfare Rights in your home state. www.welfarerights.org.au/contact

As Banjo said get welfare rights to help organise an appeal.

mumto4 ... also read this link that Banjo posted sometime ago. It is pertinent to your situation. I think it is important to follow the procedure as mentioned above. The advise in the link does not contradict the advise already given here, but outlines the procedure in more detail to do it correctly. Good luck and best wishes. dspoverseas.proboards.com/post/9282... and naturally get all the medical records up to date, particularly from specialists.

... and naturally get all the medical records up to date, particularly from specialists. This is the most important thing, getting comprehensive medical evidence. Some doctors are for the want of a better word, lazy, and only supply the bare minimum of information...if at all. Also as dusty said, you need medical evidence from specialists as well as your GP. Good luck.

just keep appealing the decision, as other mentions, good specialists documentation and evidence is needed. Find the right doctors who can do it. It's not hopeless ;-)

I can't believe my son's application was denied. He is a double transplant recipient currently undergoing rejection. Dear mumto4Only if you have the energy but may I suggest that when you finally get the sensible decision in your son's favour that he lodge a complaint with the Ombudsman, Minister for Human Services, The Public Service Head of Human Services (The Secretary) and your local Federal Minister of Parliament and a Senator or 2 of your choice. No doubt he and you have enough to worry about as it is and even though they deserve a rocket for this outrageous decision now it would be good to lodge a complaint at some stage. If you were to decide to lodge such a complaint and would like some help then just let Banjo know. All the very best to your son and yourself. Kind regards

Hi mumto4. Once again your saga , like so many others makes me sick to the core. Yes, with all the good advice you will eventually succeed. They try to wear us down and give up so perseverance is required as that is how they play the game. If you don't give up you will be fine in the end. As for complaints as the green man says this is also another game with not much hope. I have complained to all of those suggested plus many others. I got 100% nothing from any of them. So my advice when you win is to sue them for as much as you can. Find a lawyer who will take on your case for a no win no fee (pro bono). I am still in this process and nothing short of a million dollars will compensate me for what I went through with their lies and deciept over the last 20 years. Only when they start paying compensation to everyone who has been mistreated will things change and that's not likely to happen soon. You can also try the media but for the most part they side with those who think we are all rorters. So keep in there on all avenues and you will win for certain. Alas it will take a lot of hard work and anguish. And this is where the system totally stinks. Good luck.

G'day nomadic, I'm not disagreeing with you on the immediate outcome of complaints but it's just that I think it should be done. Preferably by posted letter/s instead of email. This is just my observation but it seems to me that 'the system' is hopeless in dealing with individual wrongs as such but will slowly respond if their are enough complaints of wrong decisions. I feel for you for having spent 20 years battling 'the system'. Cheers.

Hi G.M. Yes I agree that everybody should complain to the ombudsman in particular. Alas I contacted them dozens of times and it seemed to me they were in cahoots with C/L as all they said was "C/L followed the correct procedures. And my latest complaint to dept of human services was a total farce. They eventually rang me when i complained of the 100% factual lies an ARO told me and said to me what out come I would like. She should be sacked I said. That will never happen was her response. Well what will happen i ask. Nothing, we only rang you to confirm your complaint. goodbye. So please, everyone on this forum who has been lied to or anything else untoward please bombard every avenue with complaints. Gov departments and the media in particular. Maybe I can find the email address of that journo who wrote the outragous article about us last year and we can send him emails en mass. I contacted him when recently in Oz and he said he would look at the forum and call me. No call. Then i emailed him and after three weeks again no response so maybe a full on charge will wake him up. Cheers.

Ok, I just found the email address of the guy who wrote the lies about those of us on dsp who are overseas. Please email him and tell him your story of how you have been mistreated by centrelink. Continue to contact him until he listens. Do not give up. Do not mention the previous article he wrote. this way you will see if he is genuine in reporting both sides of the abuse. Those In victoria can even phone him on 92921152 in Melbourne. His email is padraic.murphy@news.com.au
