How is the falling dollar affecting those overseas?

It reduces the amount I put away, I live comfortably on about 30,000 baht a month so the AUD would have to drop substantially more before it affected my lifestyle.

How is the falling dollar affecting those overseas? I don't care. I am still in front for peace of mind, How true NFA , the dollar will always rise and fall , various governments will always manipulate the market today its the Chinese tomorrow America , Australia seems to be the whipping boy I've always wondered was it a good idea by Hawke/Keating to float the dollar back in 83 ?? it probably served a purpose at the time like China today. I'm with you on the peace of mind thought , I read Banjo's post earlier , its frightening how the unemployed are coping back home now ??

Hey itsmylife08For what its worth, I think the Hawke/Keating float of the dollar had to happen. Good or Bad is now too late. We live with what we got. Australia used to be an exploitative type of country for all. I don't think it is that anymore except for big companies/business'. I sometimes wonder, and occasionally look on the rental section of RealEstate.com.au as to where I might live if I was back in Australia, and I am unsure. Port Stephens type area if I could. But I now have this stupid dog that sleeps under my chair when a thunderstorm passes. I would love to take him out the back of Oz somewhere so he could run. And I buy a tray of 30 eggs every fortnight. Chicken, Pork and occasionally some beef. Fish all the time. Grapes, oranges, apples, pineapple, tomatoes, potatoes and whatever local stuff. And bloody RICE. But I have found a decent type of bread! I have worked in all types of jobs. Good and bad! PS The biggest cost here is electricity, If they, the gov, keep fircking around with wind and solar I will start burning something.

Hi NFA I'm glad all is looking up for you .Don't get me wrong it wasn't a complaint merely a statement of fact about happened way back then...For your info I'm an ex union official who obviously has Labor tendencies, In Joe Hockey's words I'd be a leaner to the left ... Anyway enough of the old guff I read a letter from Centrelink , they claim that I didn't reply to a letter they sent me , which they never did and subsequently have cancelled my DSP.... As you know I'm on UP and therefore would be covered by International . I explained to International that I would be moving around for sometime until I found suitable accommodation , in the meantime send all correspondence to My Gov account... I think what has happened the letter I received was from the local office and sent to my old address in Brisbane , where I no longer live what a right cock up!!!! I'm calling international in the morning wish me luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Keep us informed. International services should sort it out but if it's a problem follow up with a call to Welfare Rights.

Wasn't trying to have a shot at you, just reflecting. My father and his mother were what I think of as Communist/Capitalists. They had property but believed in Commonwealth. My dad's dad was a shearer back in the day. I'm named after him but the poor bugger died when my dad was 4. Long story but he drew a short/long straw to be one of the first rice growers in Australia in the Griffith region. My paternal grandmother's family were underground miners from Queenstown to Broken Hill. And I haven't mentioned my mother's family. If you are still in trouble with C/L let me know and I will have a go at them. Cheers

Back on cost of living @thegreenman, let me run this past you as a test of your money manipulating skills.
How hard would it be to get Centrelink to divert a few dollars a month into an Australian bank account? Obviously you could do it yourself with bank transfers but the cost would be prohibitive.
Just a thought so that a trip back to Australia wouldn't involve trying to change baht to AUD on the open market.

Port Stephens type area if I could. (Greenman).
Not too bad but still expensive and can be a bit isolated. About an hour to Newcastle, and even then, for a person who lived internationally, there's not much there. If I had to I would have to go way remote in order to survive in Australia, someplace off the map the no one has ever heard of, but even then, who can stick that long term.
Same old story though, your money drops you make adjustments, if it goes up you have a mini spree for a day. Yep most of my income is US Dollars. But from the Aussie standpoint, let's take cheap flights on Malaysia Air. All flights quoted in USD, then convert to AUD, so add 36% and see the difference.
I will use my Age Pension to buy a car. So add about 20% to the installments if I convert AUD.

As far as I know there is nothing in the legislation to stop what I believe you are considering and in fact I instance that C/Link pays money from a pension to different accounts like Telstra, Electricity, whatever. You will probably have to go through the process of registering the Australian bank account but it is no more difficult than registering yourself to receive your pension overseas. Nothing manipulative as such. Just computers. Cheers PS If you need further information just let me know.

Having worked in a sawmill and represented them to gov departments I would love to live near Raymond Terrace or even Terrigal. Having been born and grown up out 'the back' I wouldn't go too far from the coast. If you want to get away from it the WA coast is pretty obscure. Cheers.

Perth flights are not that bad, but I still go with Cairns as my next destination. After so much research and the flight access through Darwin is acceptable.
I meant if staying permanently.
