Hi I wanted to ask everyone about a problem with my resume I worked at a butcher shop for 2 years and i left because i was not being paid properly and the boss and i had disputes over this regularly. When I applied for a job I put my work history but didn't put them down as a reference but they rang them anyways and I was told I received a poor reference.
I need help. I don't want to leave this out of my resume because it adds to my experience. I am thinking about writing about a butcher shop that closed down already and putting that in my work history. I know its false but at least they won't have someone to call and check.

I'm not really sure about the resume problem, the fact that you worked there for 2 years must count for something though.

I had this same kind of problem....the manager of the taxi depot where I once worked from was a real jerk. This must be a common problem.....
What you have suggested would work, as long as your prospective employer could not somehow track down the owner. But I think there is a limit to how much trouble they would go to, in order to track down a referee.
In my own resume I have two PERSONAL referees who will give glowing references, as well as a different employer. I suggest you ask a couple of friends to give glowing references. Probably best if one is a woman.
You don't know a butcher who could say you once worked for them for 2 years ?
Or you could just give two personal referees and then honestly say that your previous employer did not pay you properly and that this had resulted in a bitter dispute, after which you left. And that you would prefer to not give their name, but that you are certain that if quizzed or tested about butchery, you could pass the test....then ask your personal friends/referees to say the same.
