Participation requirements for Disability Support Pension
If you are under 35 years of age and receive Disability Support Pension, you will need to attend regular participation interviews with us.
Participation requirements
We will need to meet with you for participation interviews if you receive a Disability Support Pension and you:
These interviews will be used to develop a Disability Support Pension Participation Plan to help you prepare for work or help you find work. This plan will include at least one compulsory activity that will be agreed based on your individual circumstances.
If you have been assessed as being manifestly eligible for Disability Support Pension or you are employed under the Supported Wage System or in an Australian Disability Enterprise, we will not ask you to attend these interviews.
Participation interviews
We will meet with you regularly to talk about your activities. These interviews will be every 3 months for the first 18 months, and then every 6 months until you turn 35 years of age.
Before the interview, consider your goals for the future and what assistance you may need to help you achieve these goals. Please bring information about any work or study you are doing with you to your participation interview.
You may invite a relative, friend or an advocate from a mental health, disability or community organisation to this interview.
At your participation interview, we will:
We understand that at times it may not be possible for you to attend a participation interview, for example, if you have had an accident, are impacted by a crisis or other special circumstance. If your interview is scheduled at such a time, please let us know so that we can make other arrangements.
To avoid having your Disability Support Pension stopped, you need to go to all appointments we arrange for you, sign your participation plan and participate in the compulsory activity listed in your participation plan. If you cannot meet these requirements, you need to tell us.
If you have special requirements
If you have any special requirements or difficulty attending the appointment you can call us on 132 717 (call charges may apply) so that we can do our best to accommodate your needs.
We will continue to work with you to ensure you can meet your obligation to attend an interview and to create a participation plan.
Changes to your medical condition
If you have evidence that your medical condition has significantly changed, we may refer you for a new Employment Services Assessment. These assessments are conducted by health or allied health professionals who will assess your current work capacity and employment service needs.
