It never used to be too bad if you went in, up to an hour... tops. I used to like to look them in the eye as well, see who blinks first. In Cairns it was also about an hour, tops. Mind you, depending on the time of day I might have spent an additional 10 to 15 minutes in a queue to get to the front desk to explain what I wanted before they sent me into the waiting pen. One time I got right up to the desk, this was in the early days of being in Cairns, and this older guy (probably near my age) snapped at me "what do you want?". There were 2 younger women on either side of him who flicked when he said it and I responded by saying, "I can't do anything at the moment and I will have to come back another day". I had to leave. It was either that or punch him in the throat. Mind you, ever after he was very gentle with me.
