The idea that DSP numbers or spending are growing out of whack with the population or the economy is fallacious. We need to stop stigmatising people who often lack the political clout to fight back, writes Greg Jericho. This week the new Minister for Social Services, Christian Porter, indulged in the rite of passage under Tony Abbott and Malcolm Turnbull by slapping those on the Disability Support Pension (DSP). www.abc.net.au/news/2015-11-04/jericho-disability-support-pension/6910316

Unfortunately the figures are only up to 2013. The comments below the article, not that I have read them all, are also interesting.

Finally and quickly, we are seeing people like Greg Jerico debunking these outrageous statements being made by the latest outburst in The Australian Newspaper. Last nights The Drum on ABC also made mention with John Dela Bosca describing the use of the word burden as being outrageous.
Jerico mentions how its The Daily Telegraph and 2GB that pitches in with DSP kicking but so far they havnt joined in.
Porters office puts this stuff out I am sure to test the water and see how much traction it gets. Certainly mob mentality via the comments section for sewer outlets like The Australian, DT, Today Tonite and 2GB has all sorts of vile comments but significantly, there are now many in support for reason and fairness.
If govt is seen by the majority to be marginalizing and demonizing another section of society then they will back off as they wont want to start another fight they cant win. And, as the report by Jerico clearly points out, there is nothing to win, in fact, will cost more by further stigmatizing those on DSP
