Hi bear,Thanks for the info, I dont want to tell them any thing as Iam on holidays and moving around a lot too. I just wondered why they want so much info as it was not requested when i phoned them..It was the letter they sent me that said it was required incase they needed to contact me. I have mygov too so why so much interest. They also stated my payments will be monthly so that was unexpected but ok by me. Thanks for the reply bear.Udon here i come..at last.

Since your leaving Monday things might be a bit tight time wise, but if you can fit in a short call to International Services, do it. Tell them the letter doesn't makes sense. You haven't got a bank account and don't even know yet if you can open one as a tourist. You don't have an address or phone number as yet other than the guest house for the first few nights to get your bearings. And they will keep.paying you fortnightly into the Ozzie account they've always paid into. At least that's what happened to me fifteen months ago. Still paid into Oz account! Used TransferWise about 2.30 am today. Aud$ 1100.00 got me just shy of Bht 24,000, and it's in my account now. Cheers bear P.S..Good luck, welcome aboard. I've had no second thoughts, though I've had good reason too. Overall everything seems to be settling nicely for me personally.

Welcome aboard the Oz refugee's express Dave. I still get my DSP paid into Oz account but I get it a different way to bear. But yes his wise words to international are very good as to what to tell them if you feel the need to talk at all. Maybe join us for a coldie or 2 one day. Chock Dee, no regrets from me either as now coming up to 20 years in 2 months time. The funny thing is that I was only planning for 2 years in Thailand and if not for Centrelink's crimes it may well have been or at least far less than 20. So maybe I should thank them for their crimes as I now realize it is far better here than there no matter how rich you are. even when I win the lotto I have no plans to move.

Callou callay Dave! (banjo can fix any typo's there). No, I am in the far North in Mae Hong Song Province but I get to Udon most years on visa runs to Laos. Really cheap flights from Chiang Mai to Udon these days direct. Love it for a day or two. Another excuse for having an extra beer and great food in a market I hang out in. Probably around March next year, next time if all goes to plan. Stayed in a few places over the years but this year found Hug guest house which I will probably stick with from now on. Welcome aboard as we all know how excited you must be. Been there done that.

One of the main things I have to do is get a retirement visa sorted after i settle into undon Thani. So it will be many trips to immigration about that IAm sure. It will be a busy few months after I arrive for sure. monday is the day I leave for Thailand and yes very excited . Iam all packed already. Cheers Dave

60 day tourist with 30 day extension if needed bear. So you've got your head around the requirements of changing to a non immigrant in country then?

Dave, you are handier than me to Savannakhet so after your tourist ones run out I'd head there. Bus from Udon to Mukdahan and over the river on an international bus. I can give you a good place to stay and other useful tips if you do that. We have been hearing a lot about tough new requirements for first-time applications. Not sure at all on them but they sound harsh. I wasn't even sure if everyone was affected until I went to Savan and all was good. Seems like Savan is easier than getting it in Thailand but definitely no promises on that moreso for a first-timer. May pay to do a visit to the Con -Gen there and get some info first and compare to what a Thia office requires if it is heaps. Some are even leaving for other countries so we read. After all that don't panic as we believe it was brought about by people with no money getting agents to put the 800,000 baht upfront for them and then take it back as soon as visa is obtained. But you will need to show you have 800,000 for sure. Oz bank and or Thai bank and or pension amount. Bit late now as you may be in Thailand before you read this but a letter from Clink is needed at least showing how much you get.

Easy enough; log on to MyGov, go to Centrelink, request appropriate document, print. Done deal.
