Currently showing a promo fare Manila-Cairns of $851 USD=$1060 AUD. Return.
That's quite good, full economy, 5.5 hours direct full service food and 30 kg baggage. I think that's the normal off peak season fare.
Slightly better and suitable for my needs. Budget economy one way $416 USD=19500 pesos, about $550 AUD.
That beats any budget airline unless you were to travel with no baggage and no food.
I will grab that fare as of Friday and report back here if I get it.

I was just looking yesterday also at Air Asia BKK to MEL for next year around March/April. If you can handle very long stops in K.L. airport they are about 12,0000 baht return or approx A$500.00. Stopovers of at least 12 hours not for me though. No longer than 3 these days after many nights on airport floors. www.sleepinginairports.com has some advice if they are still about.

nomadic, I hear you re stopovers. Guessing your in BKK so maybe this is no help. Air Asia out of CNX to OOL (Coolangatta) used to be mornings (except for 3.15pm Oct. Nov. Dec.) with about eight hours stopover, which increased to eleven when they started their OOL-NZ routes. How ever since starting that they now have a 4.55pm out of CNX, into KL 8.45pm and onwards to OOL at 11.00pm. Not sure if NZ flights are out of Mel. though. Yipeee, an extra day in Chiang mai.
Cheers bear

My perfect way for comfort is CNX to BKK for a few days rest then Thai direct both ways to MEL and straight on to CNX on return. For money it is CNX to KUL or to Had Yai in the south and bus to K.L. for a few days before Air Asia to MEL. Then if that was cheap enough I can splurge with Thai on the return leg or do the tough sleepover on the way back. If you only want full service most airlines seem to have a good deal from time to time. I have used them all because i have a great agent in Thailand who knows all the current offerings. She really is on the ball if anyone wants her name for flights originating in Thailand via Vietnam, Malaysian, Cathay, Singapore, Phillipines. But they all have the dreaded stopover in their own country both ways. I occasionally had direct BKK to MEL with Jetstar but they are more often long layovers in Singapore up to 24 hours. Thai is the only airline that flies direct BKK to MEL. Even Qantas stops in Sydney on one of the legs. And never seen them to have a good deal either. Hence haven't been with them for 20 years.

Food being quite importsnt during stopovers on Tiger/Scoot or Air Asia. Quite hard to go without food on the flight and do 13 hours in an airport without spending $50 AUD. Tiger offers the SAT Lounge at Singapore for $48 Sing.dollars. Unlimited food and drinks with lounge chairs and shower facilities. But the entry is for a 4 hour period only.
In my case I would still need Jetstar from OOL or Tiger from Brisbane, and it just doesn't work out carrying baggage. Better to pay the full service flight, 5.5 hours food and drinks with 30 kg luggage.
For in an out though, with maybe 24 hours at Coolangatta, hand luggage only, Tiger would be the go,
I will be at Cairns, so once I'm set up there, I will look at other budget options for trips back.

Hi Chris with all due respect and anyone else that fly's Budget Airlines , you really do get what you pay for .. For I've been that man on quite a few occasions with Jetstar.. Let me start with the delays re-routing missed flights etc , its just not worth it in my opinion , especially if you have a connecting flight in Manila to Cebu or elsewhere in the Philippines , you end up paying more for connecting / missed flights . Food and a few bevy's is a big plus for me on long haul flights . Before I started to live in Cebu , I used to make about 3 trips a year from Brisbane and quite enjoyed roaming around Changi Airport , its a beautiful airport with plenty to do and see . I was very selective when I chose to fly , and always looked for the promo's with Singapore Airlines . Sometimes you could get them at around $1000 which suited me , as I'm on UP DSP and could get an advance from Centrelink . My longest stay at Changi would've been about 3 Hrs . Just my 2p worth , hope you have better luck and more fun on your travels . Regards Itsa

I had some quite good stops at Singapore usually with Emirates. They had free computers and you could have a walk around. Then walk down those stairs where they had original Singaporean food.
I was talking about Cairns where budget flights do not really make sense. Like Cebu probably, but on one occasion I had good luck with Cebu Pacific to HK. Have not used them again and heard bad stories later.
Specifically to Gold Coast and Perth, 2nd choice. You have Malaysian Airlines to Perth, full service. Or Tiger to GC. Tiger is cheaper but you spend what you save in transit. Tiger has a decent turnaround flight the next day, but it's a 31 hour flight.
So yes ya gets what ya pays for.
Always worthwhile having a look and comparing though,

I did not get the advertised fare "Budget Economy". They offered me Full Economy at $653 US=$836 AUD.
Less attractive, but it is a direct flight, full service, full luggage.

March-April 2017. But already no seats in Budget Economy. I suppose they put only a limited number of seats on promo.
Are you going to Cairns Itsmylife08? Options to Gold Coast are better. Asia Express or Tiger.
From Manila, you are correct on that.

My best option usually is Singapore Airlines , yes I know they are expensive , but I hate waiting around in airports... Brisbane will be my destination for about 2 weeks at most . I miss the bloody place , well it was my home for at least 25 years Spring Hill area also Windsor and Stafford ... Stuff it I'm becoming sentimental lol . Ok mate talk later Cheers Itsa....

Hi Bedwin, can i ask how much you paid for Silk/ Singapore from CNX. I am looking for the same only to MEL next March. I have done this before and was good flight connections so will look at it again after doing Airasia or Jetstar for last few years. Both currently offering fares for around 16/17,000 baht. Airasia from CNX and Jetstar from BKK. But both have stopovers so thinking of other full service options depending on costs. I will get a quote on your flight out of interest as well as to MEL and let you know to compare.

You avoid all the immigration and check in drama in Bangkok then. You actually pass through a door into International departures without leaving domestic arrivals.
