I forgot to tell you guys I was a voluntary to Nova. So I could leave whenever I wanted. I just wanted a job so bad. I didn't want to stay on the DSP all my life. I want to get out and earn a living. About the workers compensation. It was an injury I had a long time ago and I aggravated because I stood up working too long. I can only stand up for short periods of time but after I had some pain I was going to have a rest or it down for a while but my employment consultant was nowhere to be seen and so I asked the manager if I could have a break and she wouldn't let me. I can work 3 hours fine as my employment consultant told me but he ditched me and I ended up working 4 and a half hours and I aggravated a previous injury. So don't worry about workers compensation. It was probably my fault for being too stupid to ask for a break. What do you guys think about the company CRS. Is it a good company.
You know the government probably wastes more money paying for these services then on the DSP

I wonder whether they really want voluntary clients? There attitude towards you struck me as being strange but then I have no experience with job centres.
The government is in a position where they have to reduce the number of unemployed to comply with promised tax and spending cuts. I suppose they think if they spend money now, they'll save it later.

When i was with them, they got me to do a course that our state government In SA started, no one got a job out of it. Then another time all the consultant wanted me to do a course that i was not able to do. They ditched me, as i was going to ditch the. They may have changed since then as it was a long time ago. Just thought i would give you my input.

You know the government probably wastes more money paying for these services then on the DSP Yes, we know that and the government knows it. Its the same with unemployment benefits, these places get paid almost as much as the person receives in Centrelink payments. It's just the general working public of Australia who aren't aware of it, or they would be outraged too. With CRS, and other disability employment agencies, their reputation can vary from branch to branch. An office in one city might have a very high rating, while a branch in another town has a very low one. It depends of their management, attitudes and staff. The easiest way to check, is to click on the link below, open one of the document files which contain the star rating information for each company. Check all of the ones in your location, and choose the best one available. www.deewr.gov.au/Employment/Programs/DES/PerfFramework/Pages/DESStarRatings.aspxThese places don't have jobs for the people they have on their books, so no, they wouldn't really want to help people who are voluntary.

Yes I always thought that they were very mean to me because I was voluntary. I honestly can't remember how many times I was told I could leave at any time because I was voluntary. They kept telling me that at least twice an appointment. I was thinking they must want me to leave.
I am very sorry spaceyone but can you explain what this mean I don't understand.

Disability employment services. I don't think I will give them another go. I was with Nova Employment for a year and they were really bad. Sometimes I didn't understand something the manager would say and then I said 'What does that mean' and then he would repeat the question by yelling it out and saying it slowly. It was pretty insulting. When I was with Nova then always cancelled my appointments and rescheduling they did that so many times that one time I had to wait one and a half months for my next appointment. And every time I had an appointment they always said that they were too busy to find or apply for the jobs and places that I wanted to work. So then I told them I will apply for the jobs myself. Then my employment consultant told me I wasn't allowed to apply for jobs and that he will do them. It was pretty disappointing because when he spoke to different employers they all said that they just hired people and weren't looking to hire anyone. If he just spoke to the employers earlier instead of being lazy and saying he was too busy I would probably got a job. I felt unwanted at Nova. I felt like they wanted me to leave. They always found me jobs that were stuff I didn't like such as cleaning or working in fast food restaurants. If you told them you wanted to be a cook they would get you a job at maccas and if you told them you wanted to be baker they would get you a job in small run down bakery and if you told them you wanted to get a job as a cashier they would find you a job in a corner shop. And then it was about a year since I was with Nova and they found me a job at cafeteria. It was the worst job ever. The boss was speaking and yelling at me in chinese and I don't even understand what she was saying. And they were flys every where on the food and on the plates. The employment consultant didn't even support me he just sat on a table making calls the whole time and then 3 hours in he told me he had to go and that I was going to finish in 5 more minutes. I ended up finishing one and a half hours later. After he left me I ended up injuring a nerve in my upper left thigh. And now I can barely even stand up. I don't think I will be trying another disability employment service again. After this experience. welcome qr ... <I ended up injuring a nerve in my upper left thigh.> how did you manage to do that in a Chinese kitchen..were you trying to kick the cat out of the way that was trying to get into the wok to eat the flies !!! That gives them less leverage over you, and you are less valuable in what payments they can claim for you. Seriously though, they do very little to help people, and are often incompetent yet arrogant. Once you are on their books, they become intrusive. You are better off staying away from them and doing it for yourself.

It was a preexisting injury which also helped me get the DSP. I can only stand up not too long until it will be very painful. I usually get short breaks every half hour or so to prevent but when asked for a 5 minute break I wasn't allowed. I choose not to have surgery on it because I didn't like surgery complications and doctor said it wasn't too bad. But now I have to get surgery to fix it up. Its too much of a hinderance.
How the hell are people on the DSP going to get work and get off the DSP if employment service providers are doing very little to help.
And update I contacted CRS and they said that they don't have enough funding to help me look for work. Weird.

They pay out a couple of hundred to send you on a course. They get paid $3,000 when you get a job. They don't want to pay to train you up, through various courses, to make you employable, for your benefit or that of this country. They only want to do something for you if you then walk out and get yourself employed the very next day, and get their investment back again for them, 100 times fold. Again, as we say, they are not in it to help people. They are in it for the billions of dollars the government is throwing at THEM. All of the agencies are corrupt, and have been since the outset. Since this issue has never been properly addressed, they continue to get worse. See this thread: dspoverseas.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=work&thread=596&page=1Or this one about my own experiences with them: dspoverseas.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=experiences&thread=458&page=1

I had an old friend come to visit me yesterday. He is on the DSP, after having health issues while working, which led to the discovery that his head is only being held onto his body by a thin piece of bone, after a motor bike accident many years earlier.
Even a small knock to his head, could cause his neck to break. He has a stenosis growing there now, which is constricting his spinal column chords, and so experiences numbness and weakness in his arms.
He went to an employment agency yesterday, to see a disability worker. He wanted to be referred to some voluntary work, as he is bored with doing nothing.
The disability worker first pointed out to him that he did not need to do any activity at all, as he was listed as not being able to work 0-7 hours. He again told the guy that he wanted to do something useful with his time, and stated again that he wanted some volunteer work.
The disability consultant then started offering him gardening, and various other hard labour jobs, for 26 hours per week.
After deciding that the consultant must be partly brain dead, he asked to see the list of jobs himself. He looked down the list and saw that they wanted volunteers to visit old people in nursing homes. He instructed the disability worker that that was exactly the sort of thing he was looking for, and asked him to organise it.
So, while we are being assured that we will be given all kinds of specialized assistance to make us feel a part of society, once again it has been demonstrated that the people employed to do this, have no idea of how to do their jobs, and therefore merely waste our time.

Update: I am on a blender of pain killers while I wait to see my specialist about my nerve pain.
But I found a job as an apprentice chef at a club. The funny thing is this job I told my employment consultant to help me with my application and he did notthing. So I applied and I didn't get a response. And then I ask the manager of Nova if he could follow it up and he said, 'no I can not'. I ended up following it up and now I got the job. Idiots at Nova can't even help me with my application.
Also can someone tell me with my DSP get cut while I am doing an 1st year apprenticeship. It is only four days a week and one day at tafe.
Also I heard rumour from a friend that centrelink helps assist in driving lessons I really want to learn to drive.

Congratulations on your job. Maybe you need to go back to Centrelink now and determine what your continuing benefits are? Not sure about the driving lessons, they may subsidise or pay for them if you need to drive for work. Once again, the only sure way is to ask them.
