Please note there is also an update in the "Western Embassies" thread.
Consular Outreach We anticipate a reduction in the need to provide notarial services due to no longer witnessing income or bank balance statutory declarations. As such, outreach visits to Chiang Mai will be reduced in 2019 and we anticipate our next visit to be in June 2019. At least six weeks’ notice will be provided of our visit date, please monitor the website for updates. Australian passport applications can be lodged with the Honorary Consul, Chiang Mai - by appointment only. Please contact the Australian Consulate Chiang Mai (Monday to Thursday 9 am to 12 noon) on 091 857 6996 or by email – ausconcm@gmail.com - to book an appointment. For information on the requirements to lodge a passport application, please refer to Australian Passports section on the Embassy’s webpage. It is important to note that you need to allow a minimum of four weeks for the passport to be processed and returned to you. The Australian Embassy in Bangkok remains available for the lodgement of passport applications and notarial services. An appointment is required for these services. Please refer to the Appointment Booking page on our website for further information. thailand.embassy.gov.au/bkok/Consular_Outreach.html

Hi all in June i receive the OAP or as its know now. Welfare for the elderly. I am wanting to move to Thailand but dont want to move the $36,000 there yet as the AUD is still too low..I would loose approx $5000 in the exchange rate .I know this as i moved the money once before to make up the 800,000 and it was back then $31,000. I want to stay as long as i can till the aud is worth something like the 26 or 27 baht for a $1. Any ideas as they have now enforced you need the money to be paid into a Thai bank account either as a pension or cash. I will have the pension by then but really need the $ to rise as we all do of cause. I was thinking the 60 day plus 30 extension .but i read its only good 2 times. Any advise kindly accepted

Any advise kindly accepted dave3478 the best advice I can give you is apply for an O-A Multiple Entry Retirement visa; only available at the Thai Embassy in Canberra. The price is now $550 but; you can combine your pension and with money in the bank for three months, it's a breeze. You'll need an AFP Police check (name only), a Medical Certificate from your GP stating you have no nasty diseases and somewhere to put down as your address in Thailand on the Personal Information form; along with all the rigmarole of the application. When you have it though, you'll get stamped in for a year, can come and go as many times as you like without needing a re-entry permit and everytime you come back in, you're stamped in for a year. My first year expires 25 April so, I'm going to Malaysia from 21-23 April and when I come back in, it'll take me up to 22 April 2020; without the need to show financials until two months prior to the 2020 extension coming due. From that re-entry though, re-entry permits will be required, or you will lose the rest of the time left on your visa. So in essence you get two years on that one visa. You still have to do 90 day reports; but won't need Bht 800,000 in a Thai bank until 21-22 months has passed. We then need to have that in the bank here for two months before extension, for three months after; and we can't let it get below Bht 400,000 at anytime during the year. Hope this all makes sense and helps you out! Cheers bear

And dave3478I'm not saying to come here but just remember that the Philippines currently allows you 3 years before you have to leave. And when you do it is for 24 hours.

I may join you denis if they refuse me next month as I don't have 800K in a Thai bank. I expect all will be fine but still a bit nervous with all the rumours going around. Two letters in Bangkok post paper on the topic yesterday as seems many are very worried also. Only a month before I find out. First Oz pollies and now Thai ones to stress us out. GGGGRRRROOOWWWWLLLL! P.S.dave; A$ may fall even further if you wait. Maybe a decade or longer before 27 baht or maybe not ever again. As a wise banjo once said; "never look at exchange rates". I can recall when we only got 19 baht.

I was also told that you dont need 800,000 baht in the bank.Just show 65000 baht a month going into A thai bank account. So just top up your pension to the 65,000 and have it transferred every month. That way you wont have lost so much money on the exchange rate. You can save what you dont spend every month..but I dont think i can spend that much every month for sure.

Thanks for the advice Denis, I have friends in Phillipines who say its much easier to stay there. I went there to look but found housing quite expensive in the cebu area or even hotel rooms. but its an option as it feels like thailand maybe getting harder to set up a base for long term. I dont want to buy a house any where as it feels like your trapped there then. Not sure if you need to prove income in phillipines either. Cheers

That is correct dave3478; though if you get the visa previously described that Bht 65,000 may have to be going in for most of the second year so as you can prove your income. And the crazy thing is; Bht 65,000 X 12 = Bht 780,000 per year, not Bht 800,000. Cheers bear

I wouldn't want to live in Cebu City anyway! I live in Argao which is approximately half way down the East coast on Cebu Island and am paying about $90 per fortnight for a stand alone house. If you want a city I'd look at Dumaguete on Negros which is just South of Cebu Island. dumagueteinfo.com/There is also a site called Living in Cebu Forums that gives heap of information www.livingincebuforums.com/Cheers Denis PS No requirement to prove income to the government, as such, and where I have done so which was to open a bank account was just a printout of an income statement from C/Link Online.
