Singapore Airlines have some nice sale prices out today. I never book flights until after my Centrelink check in... just in case. Should I risk doing it now?

I left after the 1st with out problem but I spoke to Centrelink on the phone recently and the person I spoke to said they were surprised I had been allowed to leave and my payment continued. I think that if you have not had an interview regarding your residency yet that you should be ok.

I may be repeating myself here, but anyway. We are told that we can leave the country for 13 week spells at a time, but when we do we are likely to get our DSP stopped? Is there anything in law that says an Australian citizen on DSP is limited to the times he or she is allowed to leave the country? Has this ever been legally challenged, if not it should be and very soon.

I certainly intend to if it happens to me, what worries me is that I may have to waste an airfare to find out. I intend a longer than usual stay in Australia on my turn anyway I have appointments made for hearing tests and possible hearing aids fitting. I intend having some lengthy sessions with my psychologist and may need referral to a neurologist.

That is why I advise all of our members if you dont like a decision that is made by a staff member of Centrelink, appeal, appeal, appeal, until you get what you want....."You will only fail if you stop trying"

Hey Banjo what is the latest on leaving Aus, is there a problem. Centrelink is interviewing long term travellers regarding residency and in at least one case informed them that they may finish their current trip overseas but will not be allowed to leave Australia again and continue to be paid. This is completely at odds with Minister Macklin's promised indefinite portability and even one of the Centrelink officers I spoke to recently appears to be baffled by it.

to banker i have not tied to test it as of yet.i was planning to go o/s again in 6 weeks time? do you think that will b a problem with time spent in aust? You said in your previous post that you spoke with a C/L officer "to banjo i had a phone interview an was told that" i might let you go for a month in 2 months time" an ask me to get a letter from my landlord(i rent a room) that he is happy for me to stay there for the next year? proof of residency is all important in this debate!!"I would call them back & challenge that decision. Even appeal the decision if you have to. How many times have you left Australia in the past 12 months? IMO they don't have any right to stop you from traveling overseas. When you do this over the phone always ask for a receipt number for the call and the name of the C/L officer you spoke to, I think they will only give you a first name. Another thing to always do is if you give C/L any documents make sure you keep a copy for yourself. Keep a complete record of every conversation & all dealings with C/L........They have been known to either loose them or not put them in, keeping these records is very important. try & tape any phone conversation you have with them. A hidden video camera is also good if you go into a C/L for an interview...... goo.gl/eAn2gYou can pick these up cheap now on eBay, just make sure it doesn't have a light blinking on top when its on. Please let us know how you get on.

It's interesting information anotherdsp, they certainly have no right to tell you "I might let you go for a month in 2 months time". Basically I think you need to get this in writing, then you can decide what you want to do.
I think Welfare Rights is a good start, even if they are not sympathetic, as they haven't been to me on occasions in the past, it will give you something to work on.
Try ringing Centrelink International for another opinion, if you are like me taping them is going to be too hard, if so just ask for a receipt number for the call. If you get the same answer, ask for decision to be reviewed then and there by the officer's supervisor/team leader. If they uphold the decision ask for a letter stating that be sent out to you.
You may be asked if you want the Administrative Review Officer to review the decision but this could take weeks. You have to decide whether you are happy to wait and try again, or make a big deal of it now.
