I vaguely remember reading or hearing something about a very long wait or fight for the dsp, maybe I have already read it and just forgotten. Or maybe it is just that every story about DSP or centrelink is a horror story and a matter of a very long wait or fight for the correct outcome. Not sure which one it is.
Thank you bear bfbf

I think that "income" covers loss of future earnings and is assessed as income by Centrelink. Payment for personal injury etc is not. That was what happened with a small claim that I had about 20 years ago. I'd need to look it up.

The compensation team at Centrelink are actually (in my experience) one of the more knowledgeable areas and explain things really well...
As Denis said, some compensation is assessable... as an example, a workers comp claim is usually split into medical expenses (past and future), loss of earnings and sometimes pain and suffering etc - only the loss of income causes an exclusion from centrelink... an anti discrimination/fair work claim will generally be a lump sum payment, and these are often not classed as income or compensation.
Some insurance payments are assessed but others aren't... but in my experience the compensation team do know their stuff.

I have never personally had anything to do with compensation claims of any sort as there has never been a need. Maybe I have lived a sheltered life or just been lucky, who would know? lol. I had for some reason formed the belief that all compensation payments were something that would affect your centrelink payments. I think I have come to this conclusion from reading that you must tell clink if you are getting compensation or are likely to. Thank you for the information Dennis, makes everything a little clearer for me. I didn't explain that properly. Capital compensation is what you receive if your fully insured house burnt to the ground. Will not affect your DSP to the extent the value may or may not have affected your original grant of DSP.

And just a tad further to my post above.
If you have a house that you bought or constructed for say $30,000 yay whatever years ago and you have housing insurance at that value then kindly understand that insurance companies will laugh and kick sand in your eyes if you were attempt to claim.
