Just want to say hello and thank you, I’m Bob and have been browsing the site for the last 6 months for information. I am 53 and hav had my dsp application approved in March. I spend a few months each year in Thailand and would like to find out more information on unlimited portability. I look forward to sharing information on all subjects related to dsp and Centrelink, once again thank you for accepting me and everyone have a wonderful day

Welcome to the forum ozziebob After six months of looking about you should have most of the answers required to apply for UP. Congratulations on achieving your DSP too; a remarkable achievement in this political climate. When you're all settled in fire away and we'll see how we can help! Cheers bear

welcome bob, bear and banjo can among others give good UP advice as as all i can say is that if want it that it's as good as a lottery win when you get it. But if you got dsp recently, like bear said that's a good start. How long after you first applied did you get it?

Thank you everyone, nomadic I first applied for dsp in 2015 received 10 points and was put on Newstart. For 3 years I provided medical certificates, at my first jca I was told because I could sit on a plane for 9 hours I could find sedentary work, told the assessment officer that I wasn’t flying the plane and if there is any type of work wher I could take sleeping pills and drink alcohol then let me know. I could not be bothered going through the appeal process so left my next application until February this year.

Another horror story of being denied your rights bob. Stories of people taking 8 years though. Same as me 20 years ago. Go on new start and get regular medicals to say you are too sick to work. Alas it has only got far worse it would seem because as soon as i appealed i was put on DSP. Only a few months after i found out the rules but these days years. I was also told by a clink member that if i could get on a plane i wasn't disabled. Loads of similar stories of lies and abuse we have all had. Go for UP is what i always encourage.

ozziebob do you know your situation re points, tables and what the JCA says as to work capacity? Being approved recently indicates to me they probably consider you unemployable with no future work capacity! Cheers bear

Hello bear I have copd/coad I was assessed as having 20points for this, no other conditions. My baseline work capacity is 0-7 hours per week, I’ve noticed on the application form for UP that they want this to be fully diagnosed treated and stabilised for 5 years. Unless there is a medical break through I’m pretty sure I have that part of the criteria covered, I was speaking to an officer in CL and was told there was a 1-2 hours per week work capacity rule now, considering that my doctors and specialist reports say I cannot work at all, I feel confident of meeting the criteria. All the same though, the fences keep moving, I will have my gp complete their part the end of next week and lodge the application the following week. I will let you all know the outcome when the results are in, thank you and everyone have a great day.

let's know the result bob as we then have another excuse for a celebratory beer. You would have to think you will end UP with Champagne even but with Clink you never know.

Just an update it has been over a week since my assessment for UP, still no answer. On myGov it shows I will still be receiving dsp, so that is good news but I have not received any information regarding UP. You would think that Centrelink with their automated system would have generated a reply of sorts, one way or the other anyway still waiting for a concrete answer. Thank you Bob

Good news on keeping DSP ozziebob Fingers crossed for you UP, but they can't rush into these things! They may make some sort of mistake in pushing the wrong button and giving everyone the option of UP. They'll definitely only want you to be considered. Cheers bear

Squeaky gate gets the most oil type thing but it is important for you. All the best but sadly you will need to give them time.
