I was just wondering if any of you had bothered with healthcare cover wherever you live in Asia, if so how much are you paying and what are you covered for? I just got quoted around $US 5500 per year I'm not even sure that covers me for emergencies, thoughts, please. Regards Itsa.

Terribly expensive, especially if you're a bit older. Put some money away each year, it should cover you for accidents. If serious illness strikes just hope you can hobble back to Australia and throw yourself on the mercy of the system, they're not allowed to let you die.

$500.00 sounds about right Itsa. To get my one year visa I have to have Travel Insurance. It covers me for medical, hospital, death ($15.000), repatriation of remains or funeral costs there, as well as the usual. Plus emergency trips home for family issues and it can be renewed whilst OS. Don't know if premium drops on renewal. But; like all insurance is it worth the paper it's written on? draw-doo! Cheers bear

The emergency credit card insurance offered with my credit card is the way for me, there was an article on them in another forum "The Australian Frequent flyer community",
where it was confirmed by members that when they claimed for different things that the insurer came good.
Of course the interest rate is higher but I only use the one card for flights and another card at a lower interest rate for everything else.

Please clarify itsa. is that US$5,500.00 a year you were quoted? Then bear says about $500.00 sounds right. So a bit confused as may be interested in it myself but not for 5 grand or more.

Sorry nomadic I misread Itsa's price. My travel insurance is below $550.00, will PM the details if you want to know more. Maybe cheaper for you, being a youngster. Cheers bear

Aren't they for multitrips? I looked at them a while back but you had to be going back and forward to Aus.

I also looked at it as well I even read all about it If you live overseas you ae only covered for say 3 months After than Nil Cover No good for us who live here permanently But the Pattaya Expat Club has a good deal for members Anyone can join As long as you have a medical before then you will probably have something wrong with you 'Then you have them cancelled out of the Policy The trick is to be covered before you are 65 in Thailand After that it gets into the 65 to 85 000 baht costs

I looked at the site It starts with 500 000 baht cover Premiums are between 20,000 -25,000 This will depend on how many people they can get in As at the moment it seen a expression of interest Also its seems you may have to pay then claim only time will tell This could also be a scam The information below is after signing up with name and email Thanks for your interest, we will contact you after reaching our minimum target number. The estimated annual premium is Baht/year per person. Plan Summary:
