This budget is concentrating on "little goodies" to persuade the hold-outs in Senate to pass the "huge" corporation tax cuts. No more, no less. If the Senate passes the corporation tax cuts, those "little goodies" will disappear in a flash ! I am certain these type of tax cuts cost the Libs at the 2007 election and also Howard his seat. They haven't learned.

The gov hasn't learned. Robo debt to continue and savage attack on migrants and refugees when it comes to welfare but seems for now we are spared but do not trust these people in power. Their attempt to bribe people into voting them should be obvious.

No surprises so far.
Cassandra Goldie, the chief executive of the Australian Council of Social Services, has said although the government may claim the budget benefits low and middle income earners “this is not that budget”. Goldie said that in the first four years, most of the benefit of tax cuts will go to people earning $48-90,000 a year. Those earning more than $37,000 “will be lucky to get $4 a week”, and those earning less due to casual or intermittent work will get “no benefit whatsoever”. Acoss is most disappointed the budget did not lift the Newstart payment.

Cuts to essential services also still in the budget but it never gets mentioned in the speech. That's why its pointless to watch them. Gotta look at budget details themselves.

Nothing there impressed me! Seriously, what sort of loser would mortgage their house to any government to get one and a half times the Pension. If that's the case we are being 50% underpaid. Bear

Quite concerning! The attitude that led to these measures. I wasn't aware there'd been a Spill and Dutton had been Successful.
The government has outlined several measures it hopes will "encourage lawful behaviour" from people receiving income support.
Welfare recipients with outstanding court fines will have the money deducted from their payments until their debt is cleared.
People with outstanding warrants for indictable criminal offences will have their payments suspended for up to a month - and cancelled afterwards - if they do not hand themselves in.
Cassandra Goldie, from the Australian Council of Social Services, was scathing of the idea.
"The proposal to deduct state government fines from social security payments without their agreement is unnecessary, intrusive, and could leave many people homeless," Dr Goldie said.
"The ball is in the states' court to reform the system of court-ordered fines so that people are no longer imprisoned because they can't afford to pay."
Goldie obviously isn't aware of the SPER system! All of the younger generation here just put their fines in there and make a voluntary periodic contribution. I am personally aware of SPER bills of $8-10 thousand. Remember back in the day? Didn't pay your traffic fines within 30 days, arrest warrant issued, cops came, "Do ya wanna pay the Fine?" Y/N No would see you slotted, no questions asked. The SPER System already addresses the issue. Cheers bear
Prisoners drawing a disability support pension will only be able to have their payments suspended for 13 weeks - down from two years - before the benefits are cut off.
P.S. In my Budget Submission re Travel Cuts, I said prisoners had more rights than DSPers through weekend leave etc. Finally in one area we are on an equal footing. Suspended for Two Years; WTF!

These are all the signs of a futuristic horror movie becoming a reality. I have met a number of Americans over the years who say the most dangerous people in the world are the right wing christian religious fanatics who think the world is an evil place and want it to end so they can all go to heaven. Not unlike suicide bombers. It seems the Australian government is no different. I met two U.S. missionaries in Cambodia recently who were scathing on everyone on welfare without me even mentioning the topic. Even the disabled. Two of the most disgusting humans i have ever met. CHRISTIANS? It really is scary stuff going on. Abbott etc in the same boat.

The poor get as bad a deal from the courts as they do from Centrelink, once again they are powerless and poorly represented. This gives them little option other than to place themselves at the mercy of a system that's loaded against them. Sure, some will be guilty, they'll not hand themselves in though, just commit more offences to support themselves.

Has parallels with here for sure. A while back a poor isan person was jailed for picking mushrooms in a national park. Another for cutting down a protected tree on his own land. Currently a filthy rich CEO has been caught red handed with an endangered black panther carcass along with many guns at his camp site in a national park as well as two illegal elephant tusks in his house along with 43 guns of which many were unregistered. He is facing numerous charges. Will he be convicted as he cries innocent. Almost no chance he will do time. I hope i'm wrong.

I remember a case where a wealthy Philipino land owner shot two boys stealing fruit from his orchard with little repercussion from the courts.
