There's two different types of carers payments isn't there? yes theres carer payment and a carers allowance which is around $65 a week, l think you can get that paid on top of the DSP if you care for another person on the DSP, l live with another person on the DSP that l provide some care for but don't know if its enough to qualify for the carers allowance, l am thinking of applying for it but afraid it could draw attention and trigger a review or reassessment of either of our DSP as we got our DSP over ten years ago and haven't been reviewed or reassessed yet under the new 2012 rules, or would that be unlikely to happen if a l apply for it?

My advice would be to let sleeping dogs lie @wombat79 don't rock the boat! Cheers bear

Carers and dsp have quite different criteria... someone on DSP wont necessarily qualify for a carer and the same in reverse.
The issue would be how much care you provide to the person as there isnt any difference medically between carers allowance and payment. I have heard some say carers allowance is generally approved if care is provided for a couple of hours a day, whereas carers payment restricts the care giver to a max of 25 hrs a week including travel.
My understanding is that you can receive dsp and carers allowance. The exclusion is if you have a carer yourself, you cannot then be a carer.
