I was granted DSP in 2003, so likely still under rules applicable at that time, I suppose. My question is thinking of going over seas ? Asia and for length of time unknown. I get a Superanuation invalidity pension and about $450 DSP a fortnight. Should I go overseas and if staying more than 30 days tell Centrelink then when os and I assume will be payable up to 30 days then suspended and providing rtn within 13 weeks DSP will be restored when back in Oz, is this about right? In a previous time I suspended my DSP on my request which than could do for up to 2 yrs, then called through and it was reinstated so I am wondering would it simply be best for me to suspend my DSP my self??

I appreciate that you will be assessed under 2012 disability tables but why not investigate if you can get it. You will of course need current medical information and a clear idea of how your disability affects you with reference to the current tables. Cheers.

Thanks Denis, re 2012 disability rates what are the requirements for UP that I would need to meet?
I am concerned that now 15 yrs later from when DSP was granted I have improved health wise and I don't take any sort of medication etc as I did years ago.In short I am ok health wise all considered and thank full for the partial DSP I get and concerned about rocking the boat with Centrelink in case I was kicked off DSP?

Unfortunately thistime nothing is as it was in 2003. You should inform Centrelink International Services (CIS) on 131673 you are going overseas of your travel dates and overall number of weeks away. Ask for a receipt No. for the call. The allowed time is 28 days before your DSP will be suspended. They will suspend you for up to 13 weeks before cancelling your DSP. This will require a new application be made which will be under 2012-current rules. This is something to avoid if at all possible, as is any medical review which is also done under these rules. I wouldn't worry about suspending your DSP yourself, Centrelink's more than capable of doing that, and in your shoes the $1350 worth of pension's would be better off in my pocket than theirs! Without current up to date ongoing medical reports, unfortunately in your case I think applying for UP is fraught with a real likelihood of losing DSP. In a nutshell to qualify:- 20 points on one table, 0-2 hrs work capacity per week and no improvement within 5 years.

Yes fraught with danger is not something I want, Idont like to gamble..I was abit confused reading through stuff when I clicked on the link above to do with reviews etc..
But if I have the process correct I believe I can travel os from oz up to 28 days all good will be no review, but if I go over the 28 days DSP is suspended and is it the case that I may be then reviewed before being restored, but if over the 13 week total then DSP cancelled and would need to apply under new rules.

Having re read into this. I am not going to advise Centrelink of an os trip from Aust when my rtn date is under 28 days because that's the allowable time and it does not matter if data matched with immigration because as long as I am only out of Oz up to the allowable time DSP will be maintained and its only if exceeding this time that suspension and reviews would apply..

If you go over the 28 days thistime DSP will be suspended. You would not be reviewed before being restored; however it might pique their interest if you simply relied on data matching from immigration as it is a requirement to advise of overseas travel. This is why I always advise speaking to CIS! From personal experience over many years they are a cut above the rest and if they were to tell me the extra time was ok, I'd take it as so. Speaking with them seems to fly under the radar with your local office also. While your travel details are still logged on your file, a local busybody doesn't get the chance to make things difficult for you because of a personal interaction. bear, good advice as always, you get this message at step 2. You cannot tell us about your travel plans online because your Disability Support Pension is subject to complicated rules. You must advise us about any changes to your circumstances that would normally affect your payment, the same as you would if you were inside Australia. To ensure you receive important correspondence while you are overseas, make sure you have elected to receive your letters online. If you are being paid as a single person because your partner is overseas, you need to discuss with us if you are leaving Australia to spend time with your partner. If you have earnings make sure you report on the day before you leave Australia even if your normal reporting date is not due, as your reporting date may change due to your travel. If you are a jobseeker or have compulsory participation requirements and need to provide a reporting statement, make sure you report the day before you leave Australia. If you cannot return to Australia before your payment is due to stop because of an emergency, call International Services as soon as possible. You can find how to contact us at www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/contact-us/
