This is scary stuff bear the more you read into it OMG they violate practically every Article on basic human rights Under the UN Charter. How on earth were these draconian laws allowed to pass both houses? What on earth were all the other parties doing at the time? I really pity the poor buggers that will have to put up with these injustices, Labor must act quickly That's the even scarier thing itsmylife08 I think Labour's up to their armpits in it with 'em! They not blocking this sort of stuff they're voting with the government on it. Cheers bear

I can't figure it out either. Were Labour and the Greens sleeping ?
Maybe Labour let it through so they will look good when they get into power and repeal it. But pretty heartless to allow it through without an uproar.

The Government's long term plan is to totally privatize the Social Security System. Increment by Increment they will outsource Centrelink functions as there is Big Money involved and a select few will get very rich off of it.
The Job Networks are in on it and being corporate, private entities will be able to behave more recklessly and ruthlessly than a Government Agency could. When levels of homelessness and crime continue to rise the Government will diffuse the responsibility and of course blame the unemployed and disabled for what happened to them. There will be questions asked, but Abbott and Turnbull et al. will NOT face jail time over the damage they have caused to Australia. Jail is the one thing that terrifies these men but they cover their tracks very well. They will just disappear one day and take their $$$$$$millions with them.

gee mulloway, 30 years ago i would have thought your comments were from a crazy person. Today from experience i now agree 100%. But sadly unless you do experience these things you will never believe it possible in a country like Australia. And that's what we are up against. How will it end? I have no idea. For the doubters, who would have believed the hundreds of thousands of homeless today. That banks now rob people. That there are not 6 games of footy in Melbourne on a Sat afternoon. And that i would of even gone to Thailand let alone stay for 20 years. All sci fi stuff. Those are just a fraction of the horrible changes that have occurred. Watch this space for more to come. Even today Abbot said climate change may be good as more people die from cold than hot. Religious fanatic comes to mind.

This is part of the Welfare Reform Bill. Greens did ask for a whole lot of amendments but lost the vote 32-29.
Senator PRATT (Western Australia) (18:04): Does the government have estimates for how many people will lose income under each of those categories?
Senator CASH (Western Australia—Minister for Jobs and Innovation) (18:04): Yes, we do. In relation to jobseekers losing one week, the estimate is 82,619. I'm talking about jobseekers now. In relation to two weeks, it is 42,152. In relation to cancelling and losing four weeks, it is 22,403. Again, that's jobseekers.
It goes on to say that no savings will be made and after the second breach (by the provider), compliance to mutual obligation is taken over by DHS.
So no saving, more people being breached and losing their payment and more administration when DHS takes over compliance.
