Hi All From what i can see on here i can travel overseas for 4 weeks a year paid with total of 13 weeks with the rest unpaid. I'm on the DSP and am 42 years old. I've been on the DSP since late 2015. My questions are many but mainly if i wanted to travel over for medical issues, get my upper teeth done, and then travel again another time studying something in a foreign country, like language, is that a way to beat the system of being able to live comfortably on the dsp as i travel? I would be keeping a shared house rental whilst i'm away for residency purposes which is $170 a week. The remainder would go to living expenses overseas which would be plenty i'm assuming. There's also the phone bill to pay of $140 a month. (the phone bill gives me 100GB of data a month). Those are my only bills. Is it possible to work around the system by going for medical then either whilst i'm there or come home again, to stud and get more time away? Hope the above is clear and can be understood. Thanks for any help G

G'day alacarte and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately the only dispensation for medical, is if it cannot be done in Australia; whether it is affordable or not, is irrelevant. However, if you are doing a course where you can be enrolled into a University OS, that counts towards the course in Australia; you will be home & hosed. I don't have any suggestions as to which universities, where or which tyle of course but; if it was an official Asian Language course, that may suffice. Afterall, the government does rabbit on re more people learning them. Anyhow, there's food for thought. We recently had a member in that situation and the link below gives a brief outline in the DSP section. They are now happily overseas on DSP for the duration of their course, approximately three years. There is a little unknown department in Centrelink that handles this type of UP; and should you wish further information, I'll be happy to find it for you. Cheers bear "A recipient whose overseas absence is for the purpose of undertaking overseas study as a part of a full-time Australian course may be paid for the duration of the overseas study as long as the study can be credited towards their Australian course." guides.dss.gov.au/guide-social-security-law/7/1/2/20P.S. Please note:- Once you are away for six weeks, your payment will drop by about $60.00 per fortnight, and if you are receiving rent assistance you may lose that.

welcome also alacarte. How about looking into getting U.P. in general. if you got DSP in 2015 under the far harsher rules of today you may get it. Definitely worth checking on. Lots of info on the forum about what's required. good luck
