It seems a bit topical for some O/S Forum members at the moment so I thought I would just put up my understanding of where the Philippines is at. When you first arrive here you get 30 days free but then you can pay for another month. So 2 months. At the end of that time you have to get an Alien Certificate of Registration Identity Card (ACR-I) which is an annual renewal. It's a Photo ID. After that you can apply for 6 month Visa Extensions which is cheaper than doing it 2 monthly but to get the full 3 years you will need to slot in 2 blocks of 2 months for the full 36 months. 3 things. 1. You are always to have an ongoing ticket out of the Philippines (!?); and 2. There are accredited folk that will for a fee go and renew your visa without you having to attend; and 3. At the end of the 3 years you have to be absent for 1 day but when you return the Visa clock is reset again although an ACR-I Card will still operate to its expiry date. Check www.immigration.gov.ph/visa-requirements/non-immigrant-visa/temporary-visitor-visa/visa-waiverwww.immigration.gov.ph/visa-requirements/non-immigrant-visa/temporary-visitor-visa/long-stay-visitor-visa-extension-lsvveCheers Denis

Thanks Dennis, I will just have to factor some funds into my monthly budget for the visas, rather than thinking of it as money out in one whack.

Thanks Dennis, may you please walk is through how to get an ACR-I card note post from denis was over a year ago. This should give you a pretty good idea on how to do it. If you run into any dramas, I think members from the Philippines will advise on specific problems, not hypothetical ones. Nothing has really changed since Denis wrote that. When you first arrive in the Philippines, you get a 30 day stay. Before that ends you go back to immigration and extend it for another 29 days. Then you again go back to immigration near the end of the extra days. They will organise the ACR card and also extend your visa up to 6 months at a time. After 3 years you have to leave the country. That's as simple as flying to another country and then returning and starting the process all over again. Immigration will renew your ACR card every year. The ACR card is a government issued ID, so you don't need to use your passport for anything like checking in for flights and also hotels. If you are over 60 years old a side benefit is the card gets you the 12‰ vat off plus 20‰ discount in fast food places.

So you need the ACR-I card to get the 6 month extensions ? When you go to extend your visa, they automatically apply for your ACR card. You have no choice. It doesn't matter if you apply for the one, two or 6 month extention. Once applied for, it takes up to 2 months to arrive.
