It definitely looks interesting nomadic, I'll give you that. I'll have to meditate on it because, for all of the whinging & whining I've read (touch wood) about bad immigration experiences, once you've got your head around requirements and current relevant data lodged at your local office, I for one haven't had any problems. Cheers bear

Spot on. Touch wood also but not a problem in 20 years, but then again I never ever go to immigration offices in country. And everyone moans about Suvarnapoom airport being slow and horrible but never a problem there either. Melbourne used to be 100 times slower until they now have the electronic passport entry which I have found great.

Cheers Itsa Yes Itsa agreed.........there are always serial whingers as well; possibly some of the comments were written by them. As a renter, with a great landlady, I haven't fallen foul of the TM 30/28 rule yet. I've been out the country and my province, yet my 90 day online reports go smoothly every time; something that shouldn't happen if there's a problem. Others who have been here two decades of more have never done one and travel all over, all of the time, without a problem. I must confess I didn't bother to read the linked article. I've read more pages on the issue than is good for my mental health, and still can't understand what the problems are or with whom. Other than to say; I think a lot who have problems are condo owners or those who hold yellow books and thought they were somehow special and didn't need to comply. When I next set foot in immigration, for something I can't do online, I guess I'll find out. It'll either be all plain sailing or you owe us some tea money. Cheers bear

For the first time ever, recently, my landlady asked for my passport details. 20 years and never before as she said she had to tell them about me and does it online. But if I join bear for a beer for one night do I have to tell them? A friend of mine did a visa run to Burma via Chiang Rai. Months later after being here she went to Chiang Mai immigration for an extension and was fined 2,000 baht because she was still registered as being in Chiang Rai. She stays in a house with her boyfriend who pays the rent so the owner may not even know she exists. No wonder many are moaning as so many flaws in the system that has been law since 1979 but never enforced until recently. I haven't been to an immigration office for years or had any contact with them other than border or airport arr/depart. But if I wasn't on here or read the Bangkok Post I would never have even heard of it. How about a list of duties when we get our yearly visa. No, they are government and it would make sense so no way.

Technically for all intent and purposes....the answer would appear to be YES nomadic. You have left Mae Hon Song province and your registered address and will be registered by your Chiang Mai accommodation. I'm more interested to know what happens if I decide to go to the mountains for a week within Chiang Mai Province. I should be being registered by any accommodation I stay at and therefore would then be out of whack with immigration and my home address but; I won't have left my home province. What happens with that I wonder? Cheers bear

This is again big brother syndrome. So if Nobel doesn't tell them I arrived then they will never know. But if they do and then my landlady doesn't on my return I am still in C. Mai. It is totally unworkable in so many scenario's. And with a million or more of us how will they keep up with all the movements. Totally pointless. growl (a little one). But I don't expect it will affect us. BUT? There is always a BUT with politicians as we well know.

Unfortunately in this day and age of 'splody' folks running around from country to country letting off oversized fire crackers and such like PLUS certain 'organized' Nationals from a bit further North the good old days are well and truly gone. Might I suggest that you Thai guys find yourselves a local legal person who can fill you in on the local do's and don'ts. When I first arrived in Argao in 2011 one of the first things I did was to see a good old well connected legal eagle who unfortunately has passed but there is a youngish bloke set up shop who seems to be on the ball.

I just watched the video and can't say anything wrong with it even if I don't feel the same. My feeling is that he is correct in a general way.

Watched it myself an hour or so ago. Don't think much of him or his attitude personally. To add insult to injury he's living in the Philippines,(nothing wrong with that) but calling himself "Bangkok Jack" and wants a hobby farm in Tassie or N.Z.
He's gaslighting; "Tens of thousands of expats to leave Thailand". Pffffttt!
Cheers bear
