Rang up Centrelink on 16 April. Spoke to a lady (whose name I noted) and told her I planned to go overseas for three weeks at the beginning of June. She said that should be fine, and she would send a letter of confirmation for me.
I'm still waiting for that letter.
Rang them up again ten days ago, and asked them where the letter was. Spoke with a guy (forgot to note his name), and he said it's curious I didn't receive the letter. He double checked my address, and said he would send it again. Needless to say, it still hasn't arrived.
Are delays like this normal?

Have you seen the cartoon of a skeleton waiting on hold on the phone, say no more.

(Centrelink International Services) 131673; in Hobart, a completely different kettle of fish. Short wait times; particularly if you call around opening hours, professional and very helpful. Once I found out about them, they have been the only people I have dealt with in seven years; and the letter always has arrived within the week. Give them a call; your info should be up for them to see, and ask for the letter. And if they don't wish you a pleasant holiday, I'd be quite surprized. Cheers bear P.S. @wombat79 DSP'ers without UP cannot advise travel on MyGov, because of "complex issues", i.e. the 28 day rule and/or if going for longer unpaid up 13 weeks or if asking for a UP review.

I received UP in July/August 2013 in a telephone call from C/L International and despite requesting written confirmation I received nothing at all. Notwithstanding bear's reminder of the skeleton waiting for a phone response (lol) I would think you are okay and notwithstanding your second call, give them a third call and explain your concern. Cheers and all the best. Enjoy your trip Denis

When we went O/s last year I didn't receive any confirmation and couldn't log it online but did get in touch to report the change in income while we were away. All got changed ok so I didn't worry about having a letter... We are away for more than the allowed 28 days this year so will check that they have everything correct before we go.

Sorry for your problems in dealing with c/link, but have you considered what the result would have been if you had tackled the cause of your problem differently. By throwing away that phone, traveling whatever distance to c/link , walking through the door and looking them in the eye to tell them you want a letter with that info in it. Now.Next you sit back in a seat, read a book, bring a blanket and pillow if you need and wait. But remember to occasionally get up and ask at the counter , how long , as you are having angina problems and may need them to call a ambulance. The one thing I have learnt in Asia is ''Time is your best friend '' and that makes you the winner. Now I'm not saying you should do what I say, but I think you should do what I do.
