Australia set to face UN scrutiny over disability rights People with disability are being encouraged to have their say on what it’s like living in Australia, as the country prepares for a United Nations review of its performance on disability rights.Disabled People’s Organisations Australia are running a survey for people with disability to give feedback about their rights and say what is and isn’t working for them. These findings will be used by disability groups to prepare a shadow report for the UN committee assessing how well the Australian government is implementing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Australia signed the CRPD in 2008, pledging to protect and promote disability rights and report on its progress every four years. Therese Sands, co-CEO of People with Disability Australia, urged the disability community to take part in the survey. “This is a chance for people with disability from around Australia to have their say about disability rights. We want to know about what is happening [in the lives of] people with disability, and we’ll take this to the United Nations in August,” Sands told Pro Bono News. “Already, hundreds of people with disability have told us about experiences with the NDIS, with access in their community, about employment and education, as well as many more issues.” The survey – which will close on 31 May – can be completed here. Australia’s UN review will take place in September 2019. probonoaustralia.com.au/news/2019/05/australia-set-to-face-un-scrutiny-over-disability-rights/

I Empthasised the four week rule and how it is in my opinion not only discriminatory but borders on ,in some cases inhumane treatment, esp ially where families are concerned

Trouble is Morrison and co. ignore the U.N. Fact is this Govt doesn't care about anyone on welfare. We are seen as nothing more than a financial burden. Their attitude isn't going to be changed by anyone. Not even the U.N.

Their attitude isn't going to be changed by anyone. Not even the U.N. The trouble with the UN as I see it; governments sign up to all of these things, than fail to ratify the agreements, just so as to be seen to be doing something, whilst doing absolutely nothing and the UN carries on it's own merry way. Cheers bear

But at least a damning report would be seen on the ABC or SBS so at least a few would see it which is better than nobody apart from the tortured who know the truth now. And maybe some of the disability organizations would get off their bums and do more about getting Satan link reformed. None of them seem very interested in it from my attempts to prompt them. They mean well but seem to be misguided in what needs to be done.

Moronson scumo don't give s stuff about human rights of of people on welfare payments just like he don't give a stuff about boat peoples human rights, he probably just tears up the UN complains and throws them in the rubbish bin without reading them. All liberals care about is high wealth individuals like themselves and large corporations that give them money like the INDUE welfare card company AND BIG BANKS ,BIG MINERS LIKE REINHART AND MURDICH anyone else they barely even consider to be human

I think the LNP want to distance Australia from the U.N. as much as they possibly can. Remember when Turnbull torpedoed Rudd's attempt to become Secretary General. Malcolm said something about Kevin being inappropriate for the job. At the time I thought it was just Turnbull being a turd, but now think they have far more sinister motives ....

The U.N. is a total joke. China, U.S.A., and Russia can veto anything they want that doesn't suit them. And so many countries just ignore resolutions against them with no problems at all. A toothless pussy cat. Not even a toothless tiger even. It is a total disgrace.
