Update on previous post my friend only had DSP he did not have portability, so I guess what Banjo and bear said is correct .But at the same time I believe it could have been explained better to him.I know at the time I advised him against booking his tickets until everything was clarified. So was he self funded and permanently OS itsmylife08, or just using his allowed portability? Did he apply for the changeover from OS? I'm interested in how it went down to try and build another argument against them.

My more paranoid thoughts create a scenario where if there's a crackdown on welfare portability in the future Age Pensioners will get a better deal than DSP recipients. It's not as if they don't get a bit more icing on the cake already. From the liberal fascist viewpoint the old age pensions are good , conservative God fearing liberal folk while DSP's are left wing , green voting, bludgers faking their illness/ disability because Murdoch said so on A current affair and the daily mail and not much better then the unemployed on newstart, A DSP travling overseas is having a holiday off off hard working taxpayer while old age pensioners going overseas are not.

I believe those of us on DSP with UP would be grandfathered under any new laws as long as we know the fine print entrapment bits like I should have been told first up in 2004. I asked my lawyer what would happen to me if they changed the rules down the road and he told me they can't keep changing them like that. So I suspect any new harsher rules would affect newcomers only.

I'm interested in how it went down to try and build another argument against them. He lived in Manila for a number of years before returning to Australia. The truth be told he became quite ill and fell on very hard times he was repatriated. After a period of recuperation he set about finding a way back to his adopted family in Manila. After a few interviews with Centrelink he was deemed unable to work. He never had UP of DSP, but like a lot of people at the time was unaware of the 2 year waiting period if you returned and claimed a pension. My friend was advised to transfer to the OAP when he turned 65 as the benifets were better, I'm not sure if Centrelink were aware of his intentions to return to S.E Asia. As stated previously he didn't have UP of his DSP so was probably destined to serve the 2 year waiting period anyway. Cheers Itsa
