In the Philippines you have to leave every 3 years for 1 day to be compliant with their immigration law and on return have a valid leaving ticket for some time in the future. Within that 3 year period you have to pay for either 2 month or 6 month visa extensions but you do not have to personally show up because you can authorise an agent to do it on your behalf. After the first 3 years, which was 2016, I went to Hong Kong but this time I'm going to Singapore. My Philippines expiry date is August 21 and I have finally, today, booked and paid for the flight. I leave at 8.15pm on Wednesday August 21 and return at 5.40am on Saturday August 24. Cost was 12,818Php which is about OZ$370. Mind you, the time to get from Argao to Mactan Airport in Cebu will be longer than flying from Cebu to Singapore which is about 4 hours. lol. It takes about 4.5 hours from Argao to Mactan! So that is my secret itinerary nomadic. I'll be carrying one of those phone thingies and will try to record as much as I can. Cheers D

Thats so expensive, or is it a return ticket?. I like to play chess when im travelling, especially on airplanes as you need to have the sound soooo loud when you put headphones on and try to watcha movie on a plane, i worry it damages your ears. Chess.com have an app and you can play against the built in computer when you are offline and in the air. Its pretty good for eating up time when travelling, im not much of a reader nowadays, i have to keep rereading the same paragraphs, good for making you sleepy though. How do you spend time when travelling Denis?.

Thanks for that tip on chess.com. Have saved it. Worst problem I have is just being able to get up and walk around without, nowadays. making your fellow passengers nervous! Normally I just stand in place.

Remember when checking in to ask for an aisle seat and also ask. "Is it a full flight?" If not ask for an empty row or at least keep an eye out for one after boarding and grab it as soon as seat belt sign goes off. I could easily do 3 days in Singapore. Will be a treat I think. Food is amazing that I remember from a week way back in 1995. I loved it after a month of traveling around basic Sumatra. Take in a movie, go to a mall and lap it up while you can. Yes, even short flights are usually long days after the excitement of going to airports no longer kicks in. Likewise, even if I want to go to Bangkok on a one hour flight it takes me a total of 9 hours from bed to bed. Just enjoy it though as only every 3 years. Looks like I will have to get to you for that beer. So many choices for me on where to go every 3 months. Always dreaming of new places but love the usual ones also. But one day I may make a snap decision for Cebu. Wish we were still in our 20s and knew what we know now.

I think those free tours are only if you are in transit and dont actually go through immigration. The train (MRT) into town is cheap and you need to change at Tanah Merah. Kallang is on the way and has good (Cheap) Indian restaurants.

So are you sleeping in the airport terminal for 2 nights? Why not a cheap hostel in Lt India? Great food also and cheap. I have passed through a few times in transit. Everyone says the best airport in the world. So what? Just another bloody airport to me while others salivate over it. There is no such thing as a good airport, especially when having to sleep on the industrial carpet from 10 at night until next flight at 8.00 a.m. on one of my FORCED returns to Oz. As a traveller, I went to Raffles in 95 for a famous gin sling. Saw the price and walked out. Back to Lt India for a Tiger beer. Anyhow, enjoy as best you can.

Nomadic, I'm with you, there is no such thing as a good airport, thieving bastards, and don't you just love the security checks.

Out of curiosity I just had a very quick look at room prices and for as low as $15.00 a night with breakfast would be better than an airport. Dorms are even cheaper.

I also can't work out why you have to dump water on the way through a security check or immigration; but then you can buy more as soon as your on the other side, and take it onboard. Do they all have shares in bottled water companies? Cheers bear
