I have a question.
Sorry if I missed it, but is it possible that they could force people (OAP's and DSP's with indefinite unlimited portability residing overseas) to go back to Australia to be put on the cashless card if it's rolled out nation wide?

l think that would be highly unlikely, l'm pity sure the people lucky enough to have UP will be exempt. Anyway there is a form where you can apply for an exemption from the welfare card , if you can prove you don't do drugs or have a drink problem and manage your money properly , prove you pay rent and bills on time and enegage in community service and upstanding member of the community , l would tell them l attend bible class on sundays at morrisions hillsong church, that would score me an expemtion from the card for sure . But l think only a small percentage of people who apply for an exemption get one www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/sep/17/exiting-the-cashless-welfare-card-trial-is-almost-impossible-critics-say"As of late last week, anyone seeking an exemption from the trial has to complete a six-page form providing detailed personal information, including bank and credit card statements, and children’s school attendance records for a minimum of four school terms. Applicants will have to declare when they have missed paying a bill by the due date, or missed any mortgage or rental payments. Public housing information, such as eviction notices and public housing debts, the interests of any children, the risk of homelessness or addiction, and “engagement” in the community through employment or volunteering will all be assessed."

I agree with bunyip JJJ88. I think it would be highly unlikely for the stated reasons. I do however think nothing could be absolutely impossible with this government. I intend to organise to have my pension paid into my overseas bank account when my personal circumstances are such I make that choice; because I feel more certain I would be grandfathered if that scenario arose or they change portability rules yet again. Be alert, not alarmed though! Cheers bear

I agree with bunyip and bear above JJJ88. They would have to lay on free Qantas flights to bring back the Griks alone let alone all the rest of us. Greece would probably declare war, c/link would possibly internally collapse, the govt would have to barricade themselves in hillsong buildings! Makes me nearly hope they do because I'll be the one selling the popcorn and drinks to the rioters. Besides it would effectively mean that ALL indefinite unlimited portability was cancelled as the cashless card can only be redeemed at certain Australian stores AND it is not legal tender.

l remember a few years ago when they first bought in the cashless welfare card everyone l spoke to on the internet and other places said ' your such a pessimist ,don't worry they will never roll the card out nationally there would be a million people rioting in the streets if they did, the people would never accept it', now it seems quite possible or even likely there will be a national rollout of the card. Seems like if your on a centrelink payment the polticans just slowly take away our human rights one bit at a time and theres noting we can do , but l still think the lucky people with UP will be OK, l don't think it would be legally possible to take UP right away for people who have it already

I'm very tempted to start a movement to take away some of politicians' more outrageous rights ...like their huge pensions for life, even if they have only been in office a short while. It goes against Australian community values.
And it would be very interesting to figure out how much money we would save.

'Failed experiment': Aboriginal groups reject cashless cards.
The chief executive of Darwin's only Aboriginal-owned health organisation has described cashless welfare cards as "dangerous and harmful" and warned against plans to expand their use nationally at a Senate inquiry. The federal Coalition is trying to introduce the cashless cards into the Northern Territory, which greatly restrict what a person can spend Centrelink payments on including bans on alcohol, gambling and withdrawing cash. www.9news.com.au/national/aboriginal-groups-reject-cash-cards/97639d35-ff55-4d96-b149-245c1ce529f5

From the research I've seen, majority of electors when surveyed firmly believe Scott Morrison since being re-elected is heading the country in the right direction. It's indicative of positive progress in the eyes of the majority and increased Government confidence. Not impossible to be re-elected in 2022 election.

What can I say I'm speechles after hearing all of that, The Government have to be held accountable for this debacle but how??? HOW? That's the question Itsa! That woman's story is far from an isolated case as a look at the "Say No Seven" Facebook page clearly shows. The one big problem in my mind is the entire parliament are in lock step on every punitive measure being proposed, and the people no longer know how to organize. However I do know that; "When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty." , or perhaps the more provocative, "When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty." Attributed to Thomas Jefferson, self explanatory and, badly needed to be acted upon on so many fronts in Australia today! Cheers bear

Are you suggesting violence bear? Rebellion usually comes down to it as they will crush peaceful ones. Who would have believed what is going on 30 years ago? How did all this Mutate? Corporate greed is all I can equate it too. With politicians implementing it while brainwashing the population that they need to invest for retirement in these greedy giants. So the mum and dads invest their hard-earned so then support it.
