Covid case halts Chiang Mai Red Cross fair
The provincial communicable disease committee has ordered an early end to the annual Red Cross and Winter Fair, which had planned to close on Jan 10, after another case of Covid-19 infection was detected. The fair opened last Friday.Governor Charoenrit Sanguansat said the latest infection, the province's 50th, was a 25-year-old woman who had visited at least five popular entertainment venues, including on New Year's eve, and many shopping malls in Chiang Mai. Thailand’s five coastal provinces of Samut Sakhon, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat have been placed under total lockdown, meaning travel in and out of the provinces is banned, unless it is absolutely necessary.
Deputy Public Health Minister Satit Pitutacha said in his Facebook post on Monday that he would like to thank Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and the CCSA for approving the proposal from the Ministry of Public Health to lock the provinces down due to the rapidly rising COVID-19 infection rate.
While acknowledging that the tough measure will impact the economy and the normal livelihoods of the people there, he said that, without this tough but short-term measure, the pandemic may spread across the country.
Provinces announce isolation rules:Red-zone people must quarantine
Several provincial governors have announced that people travelling from 28 red-zone provinces must be put into quarantine for 14 days.
They are also required contact public health authorities at their destination and remain in quarantine for 14 days.
Nakhon Ratchasima governor, Wichien Chantaranothai, said people from provinces declared by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) as red zones must complete an entry request form and present a health certificate when arriving at his province

I saw Prachuap Khiri Khan one of the 28 red zones but not in the 5. And as we are not in a red zone I can probably enter but how to get there without going into one. Will even passing through one stop me? Mate down there trying to find out for me. If it wasn't for the dentist in 2 weeks I would be trying to flee the pollution today so who knows in 2 more weeks anyhow. Is smoke bad in Chiang Mai or Rai yet?

My biggest concern in trying to move about nomadic would be the quarantine rules, likely to be different in every province and whether they were lockdown in your hotel, some other paid facility or can you move about the local area. As I'm sure you are more than aware, details here are always thin on the ground until you happen to bump up against something untoward. I hope your mate can find some definitive answers for you; cheers bear Smoke to the south. Smoke to the west; every day, all day. No mountains to see here

Cheers bear but still as clear as mud as to whether I can get down there or not. Even though no Covid here will I have to quarantine because I even passed through provinces that have it on my way? An hour or 2 in Chiang Mai or Bangkok in transit? Smoke is making my chest sore already so desperate to flee to the south. Utter insanity as usual.

After Waffling, Prayut Locks Down Pattaya, 5 Covid-19 ‘Red Zone’ Provinces
Non-Essential Interprovincial Travel Banned; Koh Si Chang Closed, U-Tapao Airport Suspends Commercial Flights.
Pattaya, along with Chonburi and four other provinces, is now under hard lockdown, with government permission required to leave the area. After days of waffling, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday signed off on a lockdown on five of Thailand’s hardest-hit coronavirus hotspots, prohibiting anyone from traveling in or out of , Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat and Samut Sakhon without government approval. The final order requires those wishing to leave the targeted provinces must present identification and a travel certificate issued a local or national governmental agency stating the trip is essential. It also gives authorities the power to stop and inspect every vehicle headed in and out of the “red zones”.

If you do travel, I'd suggest getting a really good quality mask or three.

Cheers again bear. Looks like I can get there at the moment as not one of the 5 at least. But still 2 more weeks away. I got an n95 mask for the smoke and I think it is helping but not 100% sure as yet. Time will tell only.

It's gone back to being necessary for a T shirt & beanie and whether it's cloud or smoke I don't know but; it's as if it's 6 am rather than 8. 20°; but even back in Oz that was my cool and getting colder.
