Rather than postulating on any rise is better than nothing, perhaps Labor needs to stand up and take a couple of knocks and state unequivocally to the electorate that a rise of the magnitude proposed does nothing but show how out of touch the Government actually is, as well as rubbing everybody's nose in it and; when they get serious about the seriousness of the situation they'll support them 110%. In politics as in life, taking a couple for the team is sometimes necessary to reach the desired outcome and show your supporters you've got the necessary to achieve, rather than caving to never ending capitulation through misdirected fear of failure. I'm betting they'll come out calling for a proper rise nearer to the election, once people are feeling pain after job keeper is cut off.

I am betting they will say they will seriously look into a raise, maybe form a committee, talk big, get everyone excited.....then fold to the right and do nothing....again. John Howards greatest legacy was convincing people they were his battlers and destroying the Labour party for a generation, just long enough to drag the whole of Aust politics to the right. Labour is so scared and after the Democrat party disbanded there was nobody to even try to keep the weak bastards honest.

Howard didn't have to work very hard at that. The ALP alienated their traditional voter base by embracing neoliberal economic policies - privatisations, drastic redaction of trade tariffs etc. It won them a few elections in the short term but is really coming back to bite now.
