Cheers, sent to my U.K. mate who has flights for Jan 16th but had given up hope after recent news. So we may still have a Leo in Mai with him. All on me if so.

No idea, I suppose it's the usual 500B or US$10.

During Covid, Burma changed things so that you needed a full visa to cross over. At a huge cost compared to the previous 500 baht or US$10.00. Hope they have returned to sanity for the day trippers.

I've no idea, I'll ask on the local forum. I've not crossed the border for years, my visas have all been single entry and a reentry at Thai immigration is about $80 last time I asked.

So no more day trippers for falang on visa runs. Tachilek would be losing a bit of trade I imagine. But I guess, like me, no one needs to do them anymore due to covid. But I'm sure a few tourists also went over with a day pass. So I never did get to stay a night there as I always said I would do. Don't really fancy travelling there in general while the army still rules. Although sounds like a fascinating country.

I flew from CM to Mandalay in Myanmar about 5 years ago, it was about A$130 return. I really liked it and the river was fantastic, we hired a boat for the day for about $20.

Bombs explode near Thailand-Myanmar border, injuring at least 3A series of bombs exploded near the Thailand-Myanmar border last night, injuring at least three people. At least five explosions, which took place in the city centre of Myanmar’s Tachileik province, were reported to have occurred near the headquarters of Myanmar’s pro-junta Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP). Thai media reported that the injuries were not serious. Thailand and Myanmar’s border security officials said that the first explosion occurred at around 9.45pm behind the house of the headman of Maka Hua Kham Village. The United Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) office is located in the village, about 2 kilometres from the Thai border. About five minutes later, three more bombs went off along Road No. 4, Tachilek-Taunggyi road in the village, Thai Rath reported. At around 11.30pm, another explosion occurred near the same point. Police officers and soldiers in Tachileik Province were mobilised to inspect the area. It was reported that the bomb was improvised or was remotely triggered. It is still unknown who exactly is responsible for the bombs, however, it is thought to be the work of the People’s Defense Forces (PDF), a group which opposes the Myanmar military junta. thethaiger.com/news/national/bombs-explode-near-thailand-myanmar-border-injuring-at-least-3

Also things going bang on the border in Tak province recently. When I first went to Mae Sai without crossing in 95 we were sitting in a riverside restaurant and could hear explosions. Nothing has changed since 1990.

The big attraction for me used to be duty free booze and pirate DVDs, neither of which play any role in my life now.
