We have a few pulling rent allowance, even back in the 13 week days. I think if you're on UP you lose it after 26 weeks away, would have to check that though.

Grrrrrr....This thread has just stepped on my toes and re-ignited my irritation. (Those who know my story already, just skip this post). I went overseas a few times and was classed as still resident in Oz. I have close family here, bank account, furniture/possessions, a registered car, and for two 13 week periods was paying rent (and receiving rent assistance from Centrelink whilst overseas) !!!!!!! Then I got married overseas, and although I stated clearly that I was only hoping to be O/S for only long enough to be with my wife while her permanent visa to Oz was being processed, I was told I would not continue to be paid after January 1, 2012 (3 months after my wedding)because if I got married and set up house overseas I was classed as no longer resident in Oz. ....so I had to return here. I was allowed to go overseas for 3 months in Winter last year, but apart from that I have not seen my wife during the last 16 months. She got her Visa in January, but other things intrude.....life is like that. Her work commitments required her presence till early June this year. If I was there I may have been able to steer a different course. Lucky we have a very strong bond. However it has put an enormous strain on us...particularly me....it's my first marriage. Didn't find love till late in life. And the worst part (the part they should have taken into account) is that I suffer from depression, particularly in Winter (Seasonal Affective Disorder). The very reason I am on DSP. And they assured me 3 times that my case would be assessed on an individual basis. Nonsense !
