why do they say pensions go up in September when nothing until October? Your always paid in arrears but the money is allocated so they have a fun time at the casino first!

Last 4 weekly pay 31st August $1997.40
Next 4 weekly pay 28th September $1999.66
Next fortnightly pay 12 October $1030.30
Definitely gone up $2.26 in September since last month. I look forward to October; though with the current exchange rate, what will $2060.60 equate to. Cheers 🐻

I agree with the free beer bit nomadic, but I'd probably be fired if I ask for further information about happy twenty minutes for Bht 52..... Changwat Mae Hong Son must be the cheapest place to live in all of S.E. Asia with the weakest ganga in the whole wide 🌍. Twenty minutes, really; is that all?? 😂 Cheers 🐻

Not even a happy 5 minutes for me for almost 5 months now.

sadly, as far as the gov is concerned, since they HAD to raise it because of inflation, we just all got a $120 a month pay rise in a year. This is why they were spruiking the increase, without mentioning that is still doesn't cover the cost of the food increases, and therefore, are not giving us a proper rise, while they know food prices etc, aren't going back down.

I noticed on the Services Australia website the Single overseas rate has been inched up to A$26,787.80 per year. It all looks good on paper but the reality is pensioners overseas are not getting anything additional at all due to the lousy exchange rates. Even with a partial increase I got a lower amount than the past 3 months.

JJJ88, Over 6 months ago I started transferring money into the Phils on a fortnightly basis to average out the fluctuations. All my budgeting I have been using PHP35 to AUD1.

I got paid yesterday and my pay was up $25.84 from last fortnight. I live in Aus, pay rent and power so I get the allowances for those added to my pay obviously. Pretty sure with the price of electricity, gas, food and everything else steadily increasing that I am still not any better off with this latest increase but something is better than nothing.
I am still very confused how there is no money in the budget to properly help those of us on pensions (and other welfare payments) live a half normal life by actually paying us enough to eat properly and stay warm etc but there is more than enough money to pay crappy shifty politicians 300K a year pensions for making a mess of everything they were responsible for while being paid ridiculous amounts while in power...

How? It's a conscious decision by those in power on both sides mspurple because, they think we're not worth supporting on or above the Henderson Poverty Line. Money is definitely not the issue. Attitude is!! Cheers 🐻 Why are millions of Australians still living in poverty? Experts say it's solvablewww.abc.net.au/news/2022-10-20/why-are-millions-of-australians-still-living-in-poverty/101553340Governments create poverty and abandon the poor Australia has the wealth to eradicate poverty and homelessness, yet our political leaders turn a blind eye to solving this economic crisis.GOVERNMENTS, the voices of the elites, are the architects of not only poverty but also of doom. Globally, the world has more financial capacity than at any time in modernity to end not only the world’s extreme poverty, but all forms of poverty. Australia, the world’s 12th largest economy, has also a national net wealth treasure trove, so scandalously rich, that could end all poverty. Instead, Australia is betrayingly demonising the poor as if they will always be with us — and the numbers are increasing, the divide is entrenched, with obvious permanency. The sins of a nation are captured in its lies. The lies are schematically got away with. The media and the masses debate purpose-fit distractive agendas by Orwellian governments. Kafkaesque billionaires and multinationals reap hard and fast ever-increasing profits. Humanity is bloodied, mercilessly. The figures do not lie. Australia claims a poverty line at thereabouts an individual earning less than $489 weekly. For a family of four – two adults and two children – less than $1,027. This is Melbourne University’s Henderson Poverty Line. I have written of a Georgatos Poverty Line, which lets us be serious about abject and relative poverty in this asset-rich nation, with its 47 billionaires.
Australia has the world’s most expensive home and land prices — the entrepreneur’s dream. The masses’ nightmare. Australia has a high cost of living. Life is increasingly unaffordable for many. The lowest quintile of income-base accounts for the highest proportion of suicidality.
One of the lies is that around 3.5% of eligible working Australians are unemployed. In my opinion, it is over 20%. Prove me wrong. Less than 75% of eligible working Australians are employed.
Nearly one and a half million Australians are underemployed with less than ten hours of work weekly.
The Henderson Poverty Line, seriously outdated, is used to argue that 14% of Australians are living in poverty, including 17% of Australia’s children. How is someone, in this country of $500 rent averages, dwindling ability to complete a mortgage in one’s lifetime, somehow not living in poverty if they’re on $480 income a week, or $550 a week, or $700 a week, or $800 a week? To rent a room in a share house, if you’re extremely lucky, is $100 a week, but more likely $150 to $200 weekly.

Medical benefits are possibly the one area I might benefit but, touch wood, the Philippines is manageable even without medicare and PBS. All the best to you and others in Australia.
