I just got my Electricty bill the other day and was amazed to see that the cost per KWH had fallen again and I was charged PHP10.67 per KWH which has dropped by just under 40% of what I was charged in January per PHP/KWH!
I know that The Philippines gets most of their coal from Indonesia which would indicate better Philippine prices for that coal whether exchange rate variances or better deals.
The electricity suppliers in Cebu are co-operatives so they just pass on their costs.
I was wondering if this decrease is true for other Philippine members of the board?
Cheers NFA
PS I'd be interested what you folk in Thailand pay.

It's not something I dwell on, but I dug out an old bill, I'd say from the height of the hot season, and it was 3800 Baht plus tax for 751 whatevers, I just paid this months, no idea where the bill is, and it was a more reasonable (not using as much aircon) 2500B with tax. Rate is 23THB to 1AUD.

Hi Denis Yes, our Electricity bill has dropped substantially over the last two bills or so, I don't look for the charge per KWH, I'm more interested in the bottom line and what I have to pay. Our supplier is Visayan Electric and our bills have been way OTT for a long time now for various reasons, but recently they have dropped substantially from around 7k to just under 5k, which is quite a saving!!! percentage wise I think that may be around 35%. dividing 7 by 2. Get your calculator out, mate. Cheers Itsa

Although Philippines has the most costly electricity in the SEA region, like most things, it is still cheaper than back home downunder.

Google search:- 'thai electricity price to drop due to cost of living'
Plenty of politicking been going on re energy prices here since October '22. Since March it's allegedly been going to continue rising, unless it was going to drop because of fossil fuel price drops. Now it's dropping to ease 'cost of living' pressures; but the hoped for lower fuel prices did happen.
It's one of the things I love most about being here. Nobody has a curlew what's happening on a day to day basis. Much like me not understanding what's being said; but whatever the nomenclature is for the system of government, it's got a lot going for it with publicly owned assets and all but fixed prices from BKK Central to Ban Lek lek in Amphur Nakon Nowhere. Cheers 🐻

Thank you for your replies. Much appreciated. My recent bill was 2900PHP at 36.3PHP to 1AUD (AUD$80) and used 272 KWH for the 30 days. Back in January my bill was 4300PHP at about 38PHP to 1AUD (AUD$113) and only used 249 KWH for 33 days! A bit cheaper than you Banjo but I haven't run air conditioner for many years now, just fans including 1 water cooler type that I put cold water in and frozen blocks which I use in the bedroom. Other than that we run 2 desktop computers and a freezer/fridge setup. Cooking is gas apart from the rice cooker and my drip coffee maker. I think the KWH drop is because I was running the refrigerator colder than it needs to be and I can probably adjust it a bit more. That's a good drop itsmylife08. Does that include the cold beer in your sari sari...lol? JJJ88, I'm not sure if electricity is cheaper than back in Australia although you would get some sort of electricity assistance which would make it easier. But it's certainly not dearer. And yes bear. It seems to me that Thai and Phils governments are concerned about cost of electricity and keeping it as low as possible for their citizens which was part of the reason I asked the question. I have thought for some time that the Australian government should be encouraging as many DSP/Pensioner people as possible to go to ASEAN countries as it would be at minimum a factor in making more housing available. Anyway, thanks all Cheers NFA

Last year when I still had a Mortgaged unit, I was running an AC in the master bedroom, a 55 inch TV and Pay TV box plus electric fan both in the second bedroom which I used as an office and also a fan in the lounge, a fridge, rice cooker and electric stove top, kettle plus a few devices and the electricity bill was always more or less P2000 Pesos. I would pay P3000 Pesos every month and the credits would compound. In the end the electricity bills were coming in at nada. I did the same with the water bill.
I sold up and downsized and now feel as light as a feather ready to head up to Manila to tie up a few loose ends. Havn't been there for 4 years by Christ time flies when your aving fun.
Cheers
