Banjo, some banks credit cards will give you cover for three month periods provided you book a certain percentage of your trip with their card.

I'm not going to get a credit card off them while I'me on a pension, even my current bank resents me having one from 30 years ago and can't think of a polite way of getting it off me.

I've not worried about it for years, I reckon I've paid for a triple bypass on the money I've saved.

I'm not sure about this, but I think I get insurance because I have a Visa debit card. It's got the function of a credit card (buying plane tickets and stuff on Amazon etc) but it's only a debit card. I THINK if I buy my flight using it, I'm covered. Not sure if that's because I got it through St George, or because it's a Visa card. I'll check and let you all know next week. Sorry to be so vague.

the thing is banjo ,every one tells me if you get sick and have to stay in a hospital over seas it can cost thousands a day,but the insurance is so bloody expensive i cant afford it ,ive had a heart attack and if i have another in japan it could cost me lots of money, but i will just have to die cause i cant afford the insurance,if u have what they call a pree existing illness the insurance is very dear.

Most policies don't cover pre-existing conditions. If you spend a lot of time in Japan it may be an idea to take out a policy there but I suspect it could be expensive. Hanging out in Thailand is not so bad, I saw on another forum that a guy had a stent put in in Chiang Mai for $2000.

Only thing is that they are for 6 weeks travel only. You have to watch the fine print.
