DSPoverseas: Christmas, and 2010 in Review
I’d like to wish all our members the compliments of the season and thank all those who have contributed to the DSPoverseas message board.
Last April a small group of ThaiVisa.com members attempted to discuss the problems attached to being a Disability Support Pension recipient and exercising our rights as free Australians to travel as we please and live where we like.
In the interests of privacy and sensible discussion we decided to start our own forum and DSPoveseas.com came about.
Since then I think we have achieved quite a lot, we have found friends with similar problems to ourselves and shared information, some of which has been very important to those concerned.
We have created a lobby group that has targeted politicians and public servants associated with Centrelink and the forthcoming changes to the Social Security Act.
If we have done nothing else, at least they know we exist and we’re not going to lie there quietly while we get screwed.
And, of course, we have been there for each other.
Many have worked hard here; some haven’t had a high profile on the message board but still contributed behind the scenes.
Thank you, all of you.
Next year the changes will come about, we have made our point and there is little more to do at this stage other than to keep writing and emailing the politicians still to vote on the bill.
So where do we go from there?
It has been suggested we keep the board running and expand our field of interest to cover all pensioners living and travelling overseas with problems.
There seems to be little in the way of truly independent support forums for any Aussie pensioner, maybe we can get involved there.
The larger DSPoverseas gets, and there has been a recent growth spurt, the more work will be involved.
We need an IT techie badly, someone with a knowledge of placing keywords that will be picked up by search engines.
I can run a forum, but struggle with that sort of thing.
So over the holiday break we need to think about whether we want to go there, and if so, who wants to be involved.
Once again, to everybody out there, a merry Christmas, and a sincere hope that 2011 brings us the rights and freedom that ALL Australians are entitled to.
